I have a good truck. Never been stuck in the snow, mud or anything else. --Ed
I know Ed... but can it handle a plow??? A REAL plow! The kind that make money! Not one of them weenie plastic plows for weenie trucks and SUVs! :bash:

I got over 9.5" of snow last night. It snowed spritzed for awhile after I finished plowing. I believe Saturday's storm will be starting later probably early Sunday morning:waiting: . It appears right now that the storm track will throw the whole snow to sleet to rain and back mix at south central and eastern NE. Western and northern NE will see more snow especially the higher elevations. Far western and northern NE will probably see all snow. This storm is really going to develop when the low reforms over the coast/ocean. It will be seriously windy. I think I need to adjust the dance- I want all snow:letitsnow: . As a weather geek I will keep watching this coming event. My superiors are "ok" with my spending time at work looking at data today.

Bring it on Jay... I say: BRING IT ON!!! :thumb:

There has been a lot of "chatter" amongst the different weather services' models today about this weekend's storm. The majority of the models' predictions suggest a mixed snow/sleet/freezing rain/rain event. I think that the more west and north you are in NE the better the likelihood for a mostly snow event especially at higher elevations. If the middle atlantic states get a major snow hit this weekend I believe that NE will have more snow than mixed precipitation. Although warm air will be infiltrating this system at midlevels snow tends to entrap the cold. The earlier the snow starts the more snow we will get. It is going to get real windy as the storm develops. I am going out to do the "Full Monty Dance" tomorrow morning :eek2: . I need to watch my orientation with this dance and I am not talking :gay: . Dougster you will still get snow/sleet/slop to push. :letitsnow: Jay

Jay - I am growing increasingly worried about your dancing. I certainly appreciate the snow... but if you end up in jail, what am I gonna do then???

I hope they are tolerant of your ways out there in the Happy Valley! ;)

Dougster:

I have walked the "fine line" for many years  . I tried to commit myself once but after much debate my home office felt I was not "at risk" and they still needed me (at the time) . One reason I live out of the "NoHo Zone" and in the "boonies" is that I will not be as influenced by my environment  . I also do not have any neighbors who can report my behaviors :thumb: . By the way local law and state inforcement sees me more as an asset than a concern :respect: - they were behind the sanding of my driveway. My wife is even tolerant of "my ways" generally :noevil: . This coming storm is very complex; my dance will be interesting, but hopefully not observed  I will keep everyone posted. :letitsnow: Jay

Folks are already asking me what I intend to do about Sunday. :bangin: I tell them straight: I have no idea what it's gonna do on Sunday (or Saturday night), but I'm gonna push whatever can be pushed! :thumb:

The simple, common sense of my answer seems to escape the overly concerned.

There is a lot of "chatter" amongst the various weather services' models for this coming weekend: The Canadian model is predicting snow for areas south of NE on Friday into Saturday; local forecasters in southern NE are forecasting a mixed precipitation event on Sunday. As a confirmed weather geek, I will have to keep people posted. Jay

Keep us informed Jay! If snowstorms keep coming in this frequently, I'll be drinking Starbuck's coffee in no time!!! :thumb:

Paul:

I have an older model- the Davis Vantage PRO. It has a pretty accurate logarithm for my microclimate. I also subscribe to AccuWeatherProfessional service. I glean a lot of weather information from that site. Right now there is chatter amongst the different weather service models. The Canadian and Japanese models are predicting a precipitation, probably frozen event for Friday. The NWS model is predicting a mixed precipitation event for the NE Sunday into Monday I believe. As a full time weather geek I will be watching. :letitsnow: Jay

Calling Jay... Calling Jay... We need a New England weather update! :) It's snowing here now on Rte 495 South... just under an inch so far... and I need to know if and when I'm gonna reach my 2" trigger point! Clients are calling and asking if I expect to run today. It matters to them because they can exercise their cancellation rights... but on the other hand, they don't want to cancel if they're gonna ultimately need plowing.

It's a cute little game some play in the hopes of saving a few bucks! ;)

To All and especially Dougster:

I really blew my forecast for my area:eek: :sorry:. I predicted ~5" and got 1.25 ". For the sake of transparency I PM'd Dougster with an estimate of ~3" for this storm. I thought I lucked out with the Dougster prediction based on my read of Doppler radar and other maps I have been looking at most of the day. Based on the Dougster post, it appears that I missed his forecast too- the snow evaporated before it hit the ground:hide2: . The storm developed nicely and predictably once it hit the coast. I miscalculated the timing and track. This storm tracked to the east and north of where I thought it would based on yesterday's data. Dougster it is still possible you will get your trigger point 2", with the "wrap around/back door" development, but this storm is starting to kick out of here. I still think the NE Sunday weather system will start out as freezing rain/sleet turn to rain for most of the event and finish with freezing rain/sleet/snow with little accumulation. There is some chatter amongst the different models about some snow for Xmass, I do not believe it yet. I think we will return to cooler weather next week, not as cold as last week; but it does not have to be that cold for snow. I will keep people posted. :letitsnow: Jay
