I had a momentary slip; I was briefly influenced by the mob mentality:shock:- I apologize. I will take full responsibility for my weather "predictions". I still think you are going to have plowable snow Thursday and more and more weather services are in agreement about the noreaster Saturday night. This is going to be a big storm. The question now is how this storm is going to track. The snow/mixed precipitation line is going to be close to where you live, and I am having difficulty getting a couple of weather maps (I hate dial up.) this morning.:letitsnow: Jay

Okay, I forgive you. :) You of all people should agree: It's just not fair that everything is automatically my fault. :notthatway:

Yes, I see the morning TV weather folks are all starting to say I will have plowable snow on Thursday night... an overnight "one-pusher" if the weather folks are right. This is great news, of course. Finally, the Dougster may be able to pay some of those overdue bills and get a few gallons of heating oil delivered! :thumb:

Another bigger storm on Sunday would be the icing on the cake. If it's big enough, I might even go out and get myself a cup of Starbucks coffee to celebrate!!!

don't count your chickens yet,,, they are very undecided on where the snow/rain line will end up, So far, we have two inches of hard packed ice everywhere.. enough already with the rain, in my neighborhood, this can be very catastrophic, especially to all these new city slickers buying up the camps and turning them into full time homes, Most of these homes have well and septic lines only a foot deep. There was no zoning here back in the 50's and the cottages were for water front summer or a few days winter for hunting.

Do I detect a significant potential business opportunity out there for someone close at hand with a nice orange backhoe? :thumb:

I won't count any chickens just yet... but you can't blame be for getting a little bit excited. We didn't have plowable snow until January last season. Already, this pattern could indicate a marked business improvement over last year for the Dougster! :)

Not like it was in the 98 year,, 120 some odd inches here,, lately, last 5 years is very negligible, We get snow when you get none, only because of being at 1100 above MSL and 78 air miles from the ocean,. Still, negligible in amounts, I think last years winter season total, Oct 06 to Apr 07 was only 40 inches.

I'd have been very happy with 40 inches last year! :) That would be close to our average. :thumb:

Larry and Dougster:

Todays storm will be a short term duration but heavy snow rate storm event. It is possible that snow will fall at a rate of 2" - 3" per hour at times. I have been watching the upper air charts and there is a heavy, but narrow snow band of 8+ inches that appears to be waivering between Larry's location and mine. I would not be surprised to see 6"+ in western and central NE with this storm. Todays storm will probably start in the early afternoon in CT and spread northward probably ending late evening to early morning tomorrow. I agree with elevation and location dependency as it relates to snowfall. I am at ~1400' above MSL, and located on the eastern slopes of the Berkshires where we get a lot of uplifting. It often snows at my house and its is raining in NoHo. Saturday night's storm is going to be a classic noreaster :thumb:, all the weather elements are coming together :shitHitsFan: . I would not be surprised to see some areas get +12"'s especiall y in western and northern NE. Of course it is all storm tract dependent. The upper air charts appear to be directing Saturday's storm a little more northward and westward than today's storm IMHO. There is also the beginning of "chatter" between the different weather models about another major storm possibly developing next week. The foreign agencies have been predicting things a little better than the major US weather models lately. Weather appears to run in patterns. I would not be surprised to see another storm next week. We used to average beween 100" - 120" of snow each season in my location. The past few years it has been closer to 80"'s.:letitsnow: I do not think I will be doing my snow dance for awhile. Jay

WOW!!! :) This is great! It's like having my own personal weather forecaster!!! Rich folks and corporations pay a bundle for that kind of service!!! And I LOVE your long-term analysis!!! :thumb:

Even better than that, I love your ECONOMIC forecast! I'll be quite happy with being able to afford my own special (McDonald's) version of Ed's infamous, legendary lobsta and fillet mignon dinners... and maybe a few gallons of $3 heating oil to warm these old bones. But the real question is:

Will I ever be able to afford another cup of Starbuck's Coffee???

I too carefully look at accuweather, Noaa, and easternuswx. Habit from the days of running a small town highway dpt. I use to laugh when we would get 6 or so, and the wife would drive 36 miles south to Hartford CT and everyone staring at the snow on her car. Of course Hartford had rain. Jay, do you work in NOHO? I have to go there real soon for some teeth work at Leeds, Yes, distance, height make a big difference, Last week we were on MA and CT news because between my home and the MA pike (8 miles along I 84) Ma did not salt the highway, 23 total car wrecks and three tractor trailers,, As always the case, from this rural area, the state hwy can't make a move until someone in Springfield or Worcester MA gives them the go ahead, and as always, it's what's your problem it's raining here or doing nothing... I've already heard there will be a lot of law suites over this one.,. I've said this a thousand times, you can't let these cities dictate how and when to run a dpt when none of those people leave their respective areas, They have no clue what it's about,, Only reason I see for this is your new governor trying to save money as he got caught buying $13,000 worth of curtains for the gov's office,.,,,dum, dum.

PLEASE don't get me going on "Cadillac Deval" Patrick... the corrupt and amazingly incompetent moonbat thief we got stuck with for governor when Mitt abandoned us for his presidential run. You will ruin my entire day. :(

I thought about his getting that 77 grand cadillac which btw, Ma is leasing it and not owning the car,,, For years and years the state police drove the gov's around in an unmarked car.. I think it brought back memories of his earlier days being hand cuffed and sat in the back seat of those Fords... Thus, the very expensive and never to own caddy.

One can only shake one's head in disgust and sheer amazement... and pray that someday the People's Republic of Taxachusetts might return to a two-party system of government.

I am not holding my breath.

Neither are my children.

Doug started snowing in Foxboro at 12:00 by 1:00 when I left there was already an inch on the ground. Took almost an hour to get bach here. Yes all the fair weather drivers are out. The radio is still claiming 6-10" before it is over. Looks like it maybe a double pusher for you. :letitsnow:

Looks like Jay's snow dance did the trick. :respect:

When are you going to Leeds?

I only worked in NoHo aka Northampton 1977 to 1991 at The Northampton State Hospital. I often need to stress to people that I worked there and was never a resident. I do not go there very often except for its many fine restaurants, booze, and sometimes groceries. I would probably get myself in trouble if I stayed there too long :badidea: .

It started to snow here at 11:30 AM, by 4:00 PM there was over 6.5" on the ground. I believe that it will stop snowing here around 9:00 PM. The students and staff at work are now calling me Dr J :king: due to my predictions. But as my chef friends tell me - you are only as good as your last meal and as Dougster can relate- how quickly people forget.

I really think Saturday night is going to be real interesting with a lot of blowing snow on Sunday:snow: . Next week is going to be interesting as well. I will keep people posted. :letitsnow:

I plugged in the tractor's engine block heater aroound an hour ago. I have to fire up the tractor and plow out now as I need to go to work early tomorrow :unhappy: because the wussies will not come in on time. Talk to you all soon.
