Won't be long before the chestnuts will ripen and fall to the ground. I'll gather a bunch for roasting before the deer discover them. A grocery bag full should feed a gaggle of hungry RTV'rs.

Great Keifer! I've never had roasted chestnuts.. It sounds like Doc may need a second cooker. :) Maybe I can get Two Guns a message to bring some wild boar too. Ya'll old members remember that he is a good hunter of them. :) collie

For sure. Two or maybe three cookers. We can do. :D This is shaping up nicely. Can't wait to see all the RTV's all over the yard. We got the space, and some trails you all could have some fun on. :D

To all our Florida and lower east coast members, be careful and keep your head down during this hurricane. It's already killed 25 people on it's way to the States. Praying everyone does the right think so that number doesn't go up.

So true. Don't wait till the last minute to evacuate . My niece and her husband- with the cat and dog -left Charleston yesterday in a packed Honda coupe headed inland. They left the boat chained to a tree- no other options. God be with those in this storms path. judy

How's everyone doing that's near that hurricane?

They just flashed a story across the news. 842 dead in Haiti. There's towns where 80% of all structures are completely destroyed. How terrible.

We went to Haiti in 1995 I believe to help them after a bad hurricane. Tried to teach them good building techniques. Poored millions of dollars of U.S. tax dollars into the project. The citizens would move out of properly constructed buildings back into shantys.

The saddest part is while we were there rebuilding the ghettos the resort areas were open and flourishing. There's no middle class in countries like that. :(

Prayers are Answered

When I was at the home place in Arkansas , scraping priming and painting, I was crouched down painting low behind some dry Azalea bushes- It has been droughty and they are rather brittle. Well, I had just moved the 6 ft ladder and had got down in that position when I heard some rattling- was it the azalea limbs hitting the ladder or could it be...... ( my neighbor had killed a rattle snake a few weeks ago) ..... well... I froze and looked out of the corner of my eye- and prayed.. I didn't see anything but still remained like a statue. After a few seconds it stopped and I waited a bit longer and looked closer.. I never did see anything but then, I didn't stir up the mulch neither.. I gave thanks and got to a different location and kept painting. I will look closer next time I kneel down to paint or work on anything.and will keep a phone handy.
Scary thing is, this area is at the entrance to the crawl space where I need to go every now and then to check on stuff and spray There is 110 year old iron water pipe take offs and such under there too long to pull out.. collie .
.

Glad nothing happened.
and will keep a phone handy.
Pardon my French but screw that. We don't have those nasty snakes around here but I carry my Taurus Judge a lot more than I carry my cell phone in the woods. If y'all have those nasty things, a Judge with 2 000-Buck followed by a (3) 45LC's should take care of whatever may think of ailing you.

I have to 2nd that. I'd keep a lot more than a phone handy. non poisonous snakes I keep around. poisonous not so much. I've never had an encounter with one but doubt I'd be as calm cool and collected as you sound bordercollie. So, yeah, I'd probably have been bit. :bonk:

Good job and be careful. There might be a next under there.

You did just right by staying still and waiting. When rattle snakes spook and start the rattling stuff that is a warning to stay away. Then often they will get away from what is threatening them after they sense that the danger has stopped. This is the time of year when they are finding a place to winter up. The mating season is just now finishing up so now is when they hole up.
Perhaps as you look to crawl under the house you have a long rod or such with you to be able to push anything out of your way or to just check out the area around you and in front of you as you move under there........Wooo doggies I don't look forward for you under there with that rattlin starting and you scrambling backwards. NOT FUN....the ol devil is doing his best to scare you off of that God given project. Who is gonna win???

Yea Zoom. The phone would maybe work after the fact - and I rather not have that happen. I do need one of those pistols- my shotgun was on the floor in the house -waiting for an unwanted and unwelcomed visitor. Yea... I need to get me one of those guns while I still can.
Doc, that inner voice told me what to do and so I did it .
Dennis, I'm going to win because I follow Him !! :) collie

Mufflerman, you have that right . I get the creeps under there since it is bricked in especially. I got under there a lot when I redone my parents bathrooms into handicapped ones and put in a half bath in a closet. Talking about being taken care of by the Good Lord! lots of uneven ground and wallering places under there.. just the thought raises the hair on my arms but ya gotta do what you gotta do when you are it. collie.

Think I should have made my shop a little (a lot) bigger. The RTV has been hauling firewood and the tractor has been chipping up the small stuff. Won't be long until the RTV and tractor get reconfigured for snow clearing duty. Gotta get that shop organized and the summer stuff stored elsewhere so I can light that wood stove at the far end.....winter is coming.:letitsnow:

Got block heaters in both the RTV and B2650 but never use them with the heated parking space.....

BTW.....no venomous snake around her, only harmless grass snakes and they are all hiding under ground by this time of year to survive the winter.

Which ape has long enough arms to ride that trike in the foreground? Just joking but somebody must have some really long arms or something.

I like that shop Kanook. It will heat up nicely with that stove- our barn has no heat and a lot of ventilation . I will trade you some of those grass snakes for some of these down here- ;) but you can keep the cold. brrrr collie

Think I should have made my shop a little (a lot) bigger.
Isn't that always the truth. Years ago when I was a youngster and getting ready to build my first garage, my father told me "Figure out how much space you need, then double it and add another 10% and build it that size".

I too need to do some cleaning/re-arranging. I do a seasonal swap of "stuff" to a commercial property I have. I put all the lawn furniture, chemicals I don't want to freeze, lawn maintenance equipment... in the commercial property to get it out of my way for the winter.

Over the summer, the RTV didn't get any seat time. It literally sat for probably 3 months. Just too hot for me to do any heavy work that required the RTV. I do the lighter/normal stuff with the ATV.

It's finally cooler so I'm getting out to do firewood which is a prime-time activity for the RTV. This weekend's temps are perfect for firewood (40-55°) so if it dries out from the rain we're about to get, I'm hoping to hit the firewood hard. And if you're thinking that I'm way late in the season to start firewood as it won't have a chance to get seasoned, what I'm doing now is for about 5 years out.
