Rocky Boots

Snow blowing and cold here. Had someone stuck in my driveway so I thought I would get dressed for the chore so I broke out my Rocky Bear Claw boots that I bought just before I retired three years ago, when I had money to spend on real nice stuff. I was in my shop and not the house when I put them on, thank god, and when I took a few steps I thought I stepped in a glob of grease, I was leaving heavy smears everywhere. I looked at the soles and thought I had them too close to the fire before I put them on but then realized I didn't have them near the fire. I did a search on the net, Rocky boots are junk, and found the net full of other people with the exact same thing happening AND Rocky not doing anything about it. I have wore the boots like four times in three years and have stored them along beside the cheap Wal-Mart pair I bought the same time and they are just fine. From what I read Rockys were made in Ohio then went south of the border and so did their reputation. I read where that Rocky told some people that their boots must of set on the shelf too long, another brand sold out. :toiletpaper:

I drive by the Rocky outlet on the way to Columbus pretty regularly. Hate to hear their quality has went kaput. That really sucks. I have an older pair of their boots that, like you, I don't wear that often but at least when I do I don't feel like I stepped in a glob of grease. I truly hate to hear this news. :(

You should check your soles. Like I said the net check I did turned up many reports of this. I felt like I spent extra money for the Rockys so I didn't worry about them falling apart, always heard good things about them only to find out I got hosed but not again ever.

Boots can be a tuff decision.Personally for work boots and snow boots ive prefered lacross. As I havnt bought or wore work boots in ages im not sure on quality of any of them now but for winter boots Hunting ice fishing or sitting ive always prefered Lacross Boundry packs. One of the best winter boot out IMO.They are a tad heavy but you cant beat them to keep warm feet. They are rated for 70 below zero for sitting.I sware by them.

Sunday, I watched a little football. My beloved Steelers are having a bad year and can't afford any losses. Well, they're down by a touchdown and the clock is running out.

Check out this final play (actually, final 2 plays in the video). I was on my feet and screaming when I saw this. Until I heard the bad news. It could have been one for the replay videos for years to come.

My son had a pair of caterpiller boots that did the same thing. Store said they sat too long. I have cheap boots that set 5 times as long. Never buy another pair

Very nicely done WestJet!

Read the story then watch the video. The video is worth the 5 minutes.

Holiday miracles really do come true, even on airplanes.

Lucky passengers aboard two WestJet flights from southern Ontario to Calgary in November got their holiday gift wishes granted as they flew across Canada.

Before boarding, passengers were invited scan their boarding passes that allowed them to talk with a virtual Santa who asked them what they wanted for Christmas. Hidden cameras recorded their gift requests.

Items on lists included trains and dolls from the kids, but some passengers asked for things such as a snowboard, a big-screen TV –even a Samsung Galaxy phone.

While the plane was in the air, over 150 “merry WestJetters” acted as Santa’s elves, rushing out to stores and nabbing the items on the passengers’ lists, according to a release from the Canadian-based WestJet.

By the time the flights landed four hours later, the 250 unsuspecting passengers were greeted by a festive display at baggage claim and were handed gifts they had asked for.

One woman broke out into tears when she got the digital camera she asked for. A man, who asked for practical socks and underwear, seemed to be overjoyed.

"This year, we wanted to turn our holiday campaign into a tradition by doing something that's never been done before," said Richard Bartrem, WestJet vice president of communications and community relations. "Inspired by the notion of real-time giving, we wanted to surprise our guests with meaningful, personalized gifts when they least expected them. Being able to show our guests how much we care with gift-giving, a tried and true holiday tradition, resonates with WestJetters as much as our guests."

But the holiday spirit doesn’t end there. A video of the event, just released, was created for another purpose: Once it reaches 200,000 views, the airline said it would donate flights through Ronald McDonald House Charities to families and children in need. It looks like they'll be booking flights soon. The video has already gotten over 1 million views.

Have a look.

Update: This YouTube video is getting about 5,000,000 views per day.

It's a balmy 6 degrees right now. Supposed to warm up to about 15 today. It's a beautiful day. ;)

My Dad's place got 26" of snow yesterday. He's good to go though in that he has a Kioti CK20 with a heated cab and a front-mount snowblower. I'm jealous as I have no cab.

Boots can be a tuff decision.
QUOTE]

About 12 years ago. I purchased myself and Mrs. Two guns a pair of
Itasca Swampwalker boots. Neophreme tops, you could roll them down or
leave 'em up for deeper water walking .....
Best in the world. They were NOT insulated. But best for us. Then, about three years ago. My boots started showing signs of bad wear and abuse.
She still has hers, and still have mine. Mine looks like crap warmed over. Hers is still in good shape. NOW, I go to replace mine. And they don't make them like that anymore. I have purchased several makes and models. But nothing compares to these old boots I still wear them much in the woods. Deer and hogs don't care what they look like. ( And they don't leak either ) .... All the new boots I've purchased seems to leak somewhere ... Might have to go get a pair of the "Mucks". They look close to the Itascas. :starbucks:

......... two guns

I'm a big fan of the Muck boots. I have a summer and winter pair. You don't want to use the winter pair in the summer. Your feet will melt...

I had a pair of the muck boots too.. I finally wore a hole in the bottom of one. Had to them out as my feet were getting wet in the cold muck. Now I am on my steel toed Lacrosse 12"insulated pac boots. The're brown with a yellow toe. Really warm -at least down here. I think they are a lot like the camo insulated hunters wear but I needed a steel toe and small size so went with these. It's hard to find a good ,insulated slip on rubber boot with steel toes in a ladies size. Extra sock and these size 7 are great. collie

Got a pair of Kodiak winter insulated a couple of years ago...good to-40...and marked 'waterproof' They allow penetration of the powder snow around the seams even tho I have siliconed them .. hard to find a place to walk this time of year that doesn't have snow on it...Suckers are made in the land of egg-fu-yung...Shoulda' know better..Hard to find quality anymore...even the North American stuff (if you can find any) is being dumbed down to compete with the cheap off shore garbage.

It is getting really difficult to even find any products "Made in U.S.A." any more. SIL wants a good socket set, I decided to get him one for Christmas. The only tools I could find not made in China were the higher priced Kobalt sets (made in Taiwan). All the Craftsman sets I saw were made in China; I don't think they are sourcing from the US any more. My old 1960 socket set will probably outlast the brand new one I wound up buying for the SIL.

Anyone watching the Rotella banner across the top of the forum pages?

"The average American will work 13,000 hours this year".

Ummm, that means you're working more than 35 hours per day. That's a seriously long day...
