Do a compression test, outlined in the checking and adjusting section of the WSM. The gauge, glow plug hole adapter, is available on Amazon for a reasonable price. Could be a cracked head or broken ring. That's a lot of hours, for an untouched Kubota diesel engine.

In addition to what geohorn posted... parked with the engine running turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while gently pulling the 4WD lever.

When this happens to me its caused by a clogged air filter. Since I drive mostly on gravel road the fine dust will clog the filter. Tapping the end of the filter on a hard surface is enough to dislodge the dust.

My new OEM head arrived with the same insert and it was a challenge to remove. Penetrating oil and extractor was the solution.

Used replacement engines are scarce for the RTVs. Rebuilt units are close to the price of new, when including the core and shipping costs. That new engine should last a very long time, with proper maintenance.

Based on previous posts it seems that cracked heads are more common. Either way the head has to come off to make repairs.

Seems that you addressed the obvious stuff. Since the engine runs okay, with no fuel to cylinder 2, I suspect a cracked cylinder head or broken piston ring. How many hours on the clock? There have been reports of no radiator bubbles with a cracked head. In my case the radiator was blocked...

What is the owner history of this RTV? Any issues with overheating under load?

I have a 2006 RTV with the same issue. It's easier for me to just kill the engine to switch gears. The pressure relief doesn't always work, while changing gears on a hill.

Since you were gifted with a new engine, at a rock bottom price, I would go with that. If you decide to swap the head check the engine deck for flatness first. If bore scoring is minimal I would not go through the expense of machine work. The center bore of my engine was scored a bit, it...

Since the hydraulic dump bed was optional it would have been difficult for Kubota to run the PS the way you describe. Maybe this will help with engine id.

Normal The same happens with my Kubota BX2350 tractor, with the same series engine as the RTV. The tractor I purchased new in 2009 so it's not from poor maintenance. But the Cummins turbo diesel engine oil, in my 2008 BX1000XL chipper, does not change color, even after 50 hours. ?

My fan never turns on during extended idle and the temp gauge never goes over half scale.
