Is it normal...slow

I recently bought 2006 RTV 900..It runs okay and all, yet I noticed going up hill I can only do 10 MPH in M. Is that the top speed or is there something I need to check.. Seems slow to me but it is a tractor mini-truck! Has 3000 hours on it.

David, RTVs are slow. Also takes a while to get the hang of the pedal control. Sometimes I can get a bit more ground speed by coming off the foot pedal just a tad.

A Hand Throttle is a great addition if you operate in hilly terrain. Run the Hand Throttle wide open and then control the HVT with the foot pedal. Improves mine considerably in it's ability to climb hills with any kind of speed and not bog down the engine.

I added a Hand Throttle to mine. Here's a link to the thread I posted about the install and price.

Thanks Richard ...just what I wanted to hear that it is normal. I do have throttle for the rear aux. hydraulics. HVT???? what is that?

It there is an internal one on his 06 model. there should be 2 bolts where the tail pipe is attached to remove it. I think though that that year model had an exterior one. if there are bolts holding on the tail pipe, that will tell the tale . I have a post with pictures about my 2011 muffler with the internal arrestor. The newer models -can't be removed as some have mentioned.
I think you are about right going up a hill in M at 10 mph.. I drop in H with the 2011 model to about 20-22. 28 on flat ground. It does have the xt transmission though. My '05 had what you have in performance. collie

Thanks Collie I am ok with that..it works fine around the place. On level it goes about 22. It is the first time I took up some steeper logging roads..10 MPH I am ok with that. BTW no bolts all one piece

Thanks again 71..

Here is the style I have. It wasn't on the RTV and when I bought it.

It's what you HAVE to have on BLM lands. I guess in the high desert one would be concerned but I guess for you it depends on which slope/divide you ride/drive on......East or West.....God bless.........Dennis

They make it for a 2009 1100? The throttle kit I mean?

I would think so. A search on Kubota's parts list online should confirm that. Messick's or Coleman's websites will link you to the Kubota site and then allow you to order online if your dealer isn't close by.

The Hand Throttle addition makes the RTV act like a HST tractor with manual throttle control. Huge improvement in hilly terrain.

HVT is what Kubota calls the hydraulic drive system rather than HST as in their tractor models. Very similar in it's action, especially if using Hand Throttle.
