And I answered your question but did not get a response so I thought a more recent thread would get a quicker response.

well I was commenting on the other thread but this one is labeled better for what I am requesting info on. I cleaned the shaft and it was only tarnished a little. I found a small groove in it that is probably the amount it is supposed to move in when the brake pedal is firmly depressed. My wife is not good on this stuff, I put her finger on the shaft and asked her to tell me if it moved when I depressed the pedal hard and she said it did not move. I'm guessing the compression spring should also be compressed a small amount also.

just clean it up and tap on the end of the little peg lightly until yo can move it freely with the engine off.

with the engine off and pressure released the poppet should move freely with no spring pressure aprox 1.5 inch. tis poppet is held in place by hydraulic pressure and when it is popped it relieves all of the high pressure against the motor.

I used some clp on the shaft while my wife was depressing the pedal and the shaft came out some to show about 1/4 between the groove and the seal so maybe now it will shift better. I'm hoping the hst is ok if there was some bypass because the shaft was in a little amount.

there is no way it will ever get that much motion to the shaft the way it is set now. It does not look like it will ever move more than .200 with the spring compressed a lot. The owners manual shows the groove in the picture. If I take all the play out of the pivot arm there is about 3/16 gap in between the arm and the shaft in the static state.

i will start over. first get your poppet working without transmission pressure you should be able to move it with your finger aprox an inch or more. if the poppet is stuck use a little penetrating oil of atf or udt oil and tap on the end lightly until it breaaks free. move it back and forth until it works freely. then and only then check the rest of the mechanism. all that has to happen is the poppet is barely pushed and all hydro pressure will be relieved.

hmmm. looking at the tarnish on that shaft it hasn't moved in past the small groove ever and it can only come out 3/16 of a inch till it takes all the slack out of the freeplay between the shaft and the arm. The owners manual says if the shaft sticks out more than 21.5mm call the pros. It is sticking out about 20mm now and the groove looks like it is in about the correct orientation as in the picture in the owners manual.

no. there is a arm with sort of a round end that pushes on the shaft. It can be assessed from the rear of the rtv over the top of the rear protection cover on the passengers side. pg 61 in the owners manual, 100 hr check.

yes it is free. Are you real sure you are talking about a x1140? by the 100 hr check in the manual the poppet valve is broke if it extends more than 21.5mm or about .850 inches. no way it will go to 1.5 inches.

it's been a while since i fooled with the poppet. .850 is close enough. almost an inch. if your poppet is free and will move in .850 inches then it is ok. i am not trying to be specific about how far it extends but how freely it moves when depressed.

the poppet sticks out .850 it only moves about .250 inches in when the brake is depressed hard. like I said earlier up to the mark on the shaft which I think is correct. I will stop here till I get the cd I ordered.

sounds like yours is working as it should. all that is necessary it that the poppet is released. the transmission should then depressurize any residual pressure against the hst motor and allow your gear shift to take place. unless your hst speed control lever is out of adjustment. then your swash plate will still be tilted a little and the hst pumps will re pressurize rapidly.

thanks for the info. gonna study the mechanisms involved when the cd gets here and see what you are talking about but probably go through the entire adj from the pedal on. My rtv x1140 will not keep up with my 326r mower but really my racing is on asphalt if at all anymore. The fact that the pedal never feels like it has reached a solid stop worries me some that somewhere someone did some adjusting not fully aware of what they didn't know or a leadfoot bent a cable mounting bracket somewhere in the mechanism. I'm old, I learned a long time ago that there are all different levels of mechanics, they all make a living. The really good ones usually go in business for themselves to get paid what they are worth. Mfg's techs are usually not the best, thats why different brands of equipment are popular in different areas. it's not the equipment it is the service. My 58 mf65 had the hyd pump come apart. I fixed it and told the friend that sold it to me. He said the dealer charged him 600.00 to fix the same thing. This hst, vht diesel stuff is a little new to me. I really only got diesel because the gas is so crappy and I about wore the screws out on all the carbs on the place.
