X1120 Bogged Down on Steep Climb

I was assisting a neighbor in inspection of his recently timbered land. He, his trusty pup and me were headed up a dozer path. Had zero trouble with traction and it started up the hill fine. But at the steepest incline - I'd estimate about 45 degrees at one point - I lost power and it nearly stopped. I had been at full pedal the whole way up in low gear. I let up on the pedal a little and it lurched forward.

I had a full tank of fuel and had been running around the farm all morning. The hydraulic fluid showed full.

I'd like to believe I just did something wrong.

Any ideas?

On my 900, to climb steep hills, I can't climb with the pedal to the floor. It bogs down.
When it starts to bog, I feather the pedal back to about 1/2. This kicks in the aux pump which will give a lot more power but it won't be as fast.

My 06 RTV900 was the same BC. But the newer X versions seem to be different. You can put peddle to the metal and do not have to feather it to get power.
I have to wonder if the hill was steep enough for it to be starved for fuel or oil so it cut on automatically for a bit.

pull the hand throttle all the way out so the engine revs full and then apply the peddle lightly and it will climb the hill as long as it has traction. also this problem is made worse by the speed lever to throttle being out of adjustment.

I wish I had a hand throttle Arthur - maybe its time. I've been wanting one for mowing. Zoom you are right..soon as I eased up on the pedal, it plowed right on up the hill. That is the steepest angle I've ever encountered. I can tell you there's a bit of pucker at that angle when the power cuts out. Plenty of power once I figured out how to summon it.

isn't there a little orange knob beside the operator seat that is a throttle? i am not talking about the sure enough throttle that is adjustable and locks.

There is an orange knob that locks the diff when you mash the little pedal but no hand throttle sir. Believe it or not, my salesman talked me out of one when I got the RTV. I don't remember what his reason was. But I was ignorant so went along with it.

that is interesting. i have an 07 and a 2014 that both have what looks like a choke pull in the same area or the diff lock knob. but neither are the famous hand throttle because when you let go of it it returns. but if you hold it out it will keep the revs at full. if i get in a bind i just pull it up and hold it at full.

I have the 2020 X1100C RTV. I can pull the choke lever out and it will hold RPM& not return/ shut off on its own.
My 2015 x1100c RTV is NOT like that. It will not hold RPM's unless held pulled out. Good upgrade on Kubota's part for the 2020's. :thumb:
I have to wonder what it would take to make mine like yours?

I came across your post and I remembered a gentleman on YouTube having this same issue. He made an adjustment to the amount of fuel that was being pushed into the engine. It is a bolt located behind and below the radiator fan. He said it has a gray cap over it. He mentioned about 4 turns. If you go to rich it will blow out black smoke. I will attach a picture of his engine.
