X1100C front lower Ball Joints

2,289 miles and both ball joints are shot. Had the machine in for service/recalls and since I just changed tires I told them to check the toe in 4 me. All other joints including those weird sloppy rear ones seem fine. Did a complete overhaul, they lowered the RPMs to allow range shifter to work easier. And to improve power they adjusted VHST pump.

As he put it, he's gone over it from horn to hoof! LOL

I am still not thrilled with this machine.

But keep an eye on those front lower ball joints.

The lower ball joints appear to be small to me. They don't have to oscillate much because of minimal suspension movement. Non-greasable. Other than the size, I can't see any reason they should fail prematurely?? The machine doesn't carry a lot of weight on the front and carries little if any of the payload weight on the front.....

Only front weight was the 6 times I plowed snow. A 265 pound plow shouldn't have caused it. It will be interesting to see if any others that plow snow have trouble. The plow only stays on while plowing because it's in the way and it's very easy to put on and take off. It's a Snoway.

The primary weight of the plow would be carried by the coil spring and top strut mount. Lateral forces would have to be absorbed by the lower ball joint.

I was hoping others would chime in with their history concerning the ball joints. I don't recall seeing others complain about them failing but I might have missed it.

I hadn't seen any either. These weren't shot but I do repairs proactively. Just letting everyone know to keep an eye on them.

Old thread but it appears i need to change out the upper and lower ball joints on my x1100c. 12000 miles. 26 inch tires

How come you don't like it? Is it just because it is slow? I love mine. It's a little workhorse. I use it as a dump truck hauling gravel, plowed for 3 years with a 6.6 Boss vee plow, now it's got a 66 inch snow blower on it. Not fast but has not run out of power.
