Tired of Blue, What to do?

I am new to this forumn but need some advice. Here is my story:

I decided about 4 years ago to try my hand in farming. I live in MT and hay prices were getting crazy so I thought I can do this myself. I bought some equipment which included a 2008 NH TD95D. Everything went pretty well the first couple of years and then last year things went to crap. The clutch went out, two weeks out of warranty, bracket broke on air conditioner, hydraulic line broke, the list goes on and on. The dealer is telling me I bought an entry level tractor and these problems are going to happen for what I am doing.( I cut about 100 acres of hay twice a year and plow some snow in the winter.) This year I have had even more problems. The dealer says he will stand by his equipment but I need to move into a 6000 series New Holland to the tune of 65 to 70 K depending on options.

I would like some advice from some folks that have been doing this longer and are familiar with some of the newer equipment. I hear from a lot of folks that I need to buy a John Deere and all my problems will be solved. All I know about the Green tractors is they seem to cost a lot more.

I have another dealer (who I bought some other equipment from) telling me his Massey Ferguson is the way to go. But I have heard they have their issues as well.

I am going to get rid of my NH, What should I buy???????????????
 
I know this post is old but...

I'd first check with other people around that work thier tractor as you do. I've had good luck with ford/ NH. Bad(nightmare) luck with JD.
 
I'll agree with TAC -look at what other farmers in your area are using.

I've had good luck so far with my Kubota M7040. Not used it for hay much -yet-, but have pulled all the disk it wants for several hours. Cleared a 5 acre orange grove, and quite a bit more medium/heavy land clearing. Did some things that I should have had a larger tractor do, but just kept at it. Had it for 4 years now, and still happy with it.

That said, one of the most important things should be how well the service is with your local dealer, what ever the color is.

I agree with what the guys already said. I've had great luck with orange. But I'm not doing hay work either.

Did you already decide on what to buy next?
 
I don't want to pee in anyone's cornflakes here but around me there are only two colors ... green and orange. I have a neighbor who says that if you don't buy green, you are buying second best. However, every time I've been in the market for equipment I never could justify the extra dollars for that green paint. I always bought Kubota orange, three of them, and never regretted any purchase. They've just worked and worked. They've never left me stranded. I can't ask any more out of any piece of equipment.

Oh. we still have an 50 odd year old JD 820 that still does what has to be done too. Maybe that's the answer, wait 50 years and then make a judgement. I don't think that I'll be around then to throw in my my 2 cents worth. :wink:

That was me. I talked to the local Green & Yellow dealer. He had a "new/used" tractor the same size I was looking for. ("It was bought new, & returned about a month later for a different model.")
I had the orange one delivered, with the FEL, for the same price.
That and knowing several people around me that had Kubota tractors & were happy with them helped.
