Things to watch out for on used 2013 1100

Well I finally got her home from the dealer servicing and repair. $2400 repair bill after repairing the front differential and case, plus ALL the filters and fluids, replacing a tie rod, adjusting the valves, and adjusting neutral and checking charge pressures.
This machine drives like brand new now. Smooth, and lots quicker...27mph. Now to get on with the accessories. I've got lights front and rear coming along with a bed liner, and front mud guards. I may add a strobe light or some strobe leds for safety along the road to some of my property. Where do most of u mount a SMV sign. On the back behind the drivers side to keep from blocking view ?

I'm really glad you have it back and it's running so well. It's a good looking machine.
That said, I do not, repeat do not, recommend the bed liner. Had one. The bed rotted under it. It was a big mistake.
Instead I highly recommend a spray in liner like RhinoLiner. It's a bit more to start with but it will last about forever.

Glad you are up and going. I mounted my sign on the screen behind driver also.

Glad you got her up and running. Now the fun starts. Where I live the city has three RTV's for meter reading and such. Their SMV sign and strobe light are mounted on the cab and back of cab. All parts are Kubota and is very clean looking. City's RTVs are 2013 1100c.

Thanks folks..still haven't figured out how I'm gonna make a rear window screen...expanded metal but what do you use for a frame, round or square tubing. It looks like the OEM mount is setup for
round tubing fIame, at least on the upper mount.
I also love 71sschevelles bed rails...those are nice. Did u make them up or purchase them ?
Why did Kubota only wire for one light on the back of the cab yet have 3 mounting positions...arrrggghh.
Mine does have a spray in bed liner, but it doesn't look to be of Line X quality...maybe factory , I dunno. But it does appear to have bubbled up in a spot or two. I've got some Fluid Film. Do you think spraying the bed inside with the fluid film and then putting in the plastic liner would protect it or do I need to some how strip the sprayed in liner and get down to bare metal and re-spray with Line X or such ?
I'm going to have to be a little more covert it seems in my accessory acquisitions...it seems management has gotten wise of maintenance's un-budgeted expenditures. And we all know if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy !

Yeah, I understand the "Happy Wife, Happy Life" phenomena well.
I had a bad experience with the removable Kubota bed liner. "Stuff" got under it and badly rusted the bed. I don't have any experience to know how it would work installed over sprayed in bed liner, though I think you'd have to do something to the area with metal exposed, like paint it.
Were it me, I wouldn't do anything until it actually needed it, metal appeared, then I'd go to a commercial bed liner shop and ask them. I'm certain you wouldn't be the first person to ask them that question. When I had it done to mine, which required priming on the new bare metal plate I installed to fix the rotted bed, it cost $300.00.

The standard bed paint on my 05 was "protected by a slide in bed liner.. It rusted really bad under that plastic thing. I was fortunate in that the diamond markings in the steel were still distinguishable in a deteriorated place or 2. I cleaned it up and painted it before I sold it and without the plastic thing... My 2011 has the factory bedliner and it has held up really well.. I keep a piece of ext, 3/4 plywood in the bottom and my toolbox is mounted to it.. I clean under the plywood now and then by prying up the back edge, and all is good. reason for plywood.. It is what is holding my toolbox in place and minerals etc are hauled so sweep out easily if they tear open. I don't know what it costs as it was a package deal. collie
Your experience with the slide in bed liner and mine were similar. See pictures of what was found under the slide in liner. Note that you can see the tail light wiring through the rusted holes. Some of the places farther up the bed were getting very thin. The tail gate and bed sides rusted beyond salvage as well.
The repair was a lot of work and took about two weeks of spare time. I cut off the diamond plate and bought a piece of 14 gage flat steel plate, welded it in place, painted the underside of it, added new sides and tail gate, then took it to the RhinoLiner place and had a spray in bed liner installed to cover the sides and wrap around the bottom of the tail gate. Should have done that right from the start.
I installed the new plate to save money. The piece of 14 gage plate cut to size was $40.00. A new bed frame with the factory diamond plate was more than $600.00. Well worth the effort.
Edited to add: It's also worth noting that the metal between the bed frame and the diamond plate is bare (under the bed) on the factory version. There is no paint in there. The bed is all welded together, then painted. Understandable, but it leaves unprotected metal.

Noooooooooo problem. I knew what you meant. You used "slide in" for the one that ... uh ... slides in and fastens with screws. When you used 'factory' for the other I assumed you met the factory sprayed version.
Good to be certain though.

I really think that the older units, specifically, my 05 have bed paint that is about as weak as toilet paper. Perhaps the whole idea for the factory is not "rust proofing" the machine but just coverage. Have seen way to many units on here and out in the world that have inordinate amount of rust that shouldn't be. Frames, under the floor mats, beds, tailgates, and on and on...........
For me, I reprimed the rusting out bed with heavy duty rustoleum before it really got out of control. I use one of the TSC horse stall mats trimmed to size, and for sure, pull it out and wash under it every time I fertilize with granular stuff using my bumper buddy, or carry pretty much anything that is abrasive or that will sit there under the matting wet and promote rust.........has worked pretty well now for the last several years......
In addition, I spray the whole underside of the bed and machine each time I fert or spray mastures...............seems to keep the rust from starting on the frame and such........God bless......Dennis

No Mike, for me I wouldn't waste the fluid film like that on the bed......but again, I wash mine out a lot.......Fluid Film is GREAT stuff...NOT even saying that it wouldn't work.
I think perhaps to touch up the bad spots with that spray on bed liner that one see's in cans at the store with a coat or so, making sure to over-lap the areas a lot.......
Do the plastic bed liners come out pretty easy????...........what's the problem with removing them every so often to clean out and check out how bad the situation is getting?????..........Just thoughts.....God bless......Dennis

That's a nice looking rig, it looks like you have a hitch extension on the back of it. How do you like that? Do you have any problems with it digging in the ground when you start to go up steep inclines? I was going to make an extension to put on mine, but like the looks of the one you are using. Do you mind sharing where you got it from, or is it something you fabricated?

Hello VA1100, thanks for the comments. The hitch extension I have is made by utv hitchworks. I got it from orangeaftermarket.com. They are also available on ebay. Neat little trick, it extends the hitch out the back more making it easier to change out ball sizes. It also covers up a lot of the area that sticks ect. could damage the filters or other stuff. Easy to install and have had no problems with it hanging up in rough terrain.

Their web site list all the prices, but states that they don't sell wholesale, I need to go to my Kubota dealer to order. The best price is at aftermarket orange, but I can't imagine that dealer isn't going to add something to it. I found the same thing on Amazon for $20 more with free shipping, ebay was about $40 more plus shipping. I'm still shopping around, I really like the looks of it and don't like to lay on the ground to change or remove the hitch with the way the original is set up.

Orange aftermarket does not sell to the public. Have to get their stuff through a dealer. I need to go see my dealer and get them to get me a set of camo seat covers like tailrotor got. They have some cool stuff.
