Another Howard Rotovator.
Picked up another Howard Rotovator Series P 40 The decals finally arrived from England for the E series Howard. Also found a heavy Dearborn Subsoiler.Winter continues, keeping busy bringing back to life old implements.

Craigslist $175.00 I like this old Dearborn Model 10-89 because they were built tough. Most of today's made stuff is wimpy. This thing is heavy. As well as breaking up hard pan and getting stubborn roots up, I plan on modifying it so I can lay down more water lines. See the link where someone did just that.

That's it! I considered mine a good buy. I have seen them go for $290. New manufactured ones are around $375.00 but NOT built like the old Dearborn's.. Yours is in good shape. Put it on CL's. You can always come down.
I don't recall seeing a tag on mine anywhere. I did print that old brochure page and will take that to the shop.
Mine is in very good shape. Glad I didn't push the issue and put it on CL for $100 like I was thinking last fall. Now I'm 2nd guessing the value of the 1-bottom plow I have as well. Old, heavy but in great condition.

The Sub-soiler's are handy tools to have around the place.. Yes don't sell yourself short. I plan to modify mine with a bolt on pipe laying attachment similar to the photo.

My days of laying any kind of pipe around here are over. When I bought the place about 20 years ago, it needed some work. I brought in something like 300 dump truck loads of dirt/fill, several hundred tons of stone... I live on hill so the yard need tiled as well especially to keep water away from the house and buildings. I laid over 1000' of drain tile.
I also have backhoes available anytime I want them so I normally go that route if/when needed.

I picked up another Howard. The price was right. So now I have a back up..I guess. The wife just shakes her head. Hmmmmmmm. P 40 Howard Rotavator. 53 inches wide 600lbs and heavy. Lightly used. A Howard Rotavator is as good as it gets, the Cadillac of rototillers. Original tines considering, except for one. Amazing for being built in the 70's.
