Sides for the bed

Very nice job Milkman, with pressure treated wood I wouldn't bother painting it, unless you really want to be color coordinated. PT wood certainly doesn't require paint.

I too would probably stain it. Black. My whole bed is wood (and stained black). I don't put polyurethane over it since it gets banged up a lot and I can fix it back up quickly by just applying another coat of stain.

Whichever route you take, good call on waiting until spring. You'll want that PT lumber to dry out for several months before coating.

If you take the stain route, you will want a solid color. Basically, once stained you won't see the wood grain behind it. It'll appear that it's been painted.

For stain, I've been very happy with the Sherwin Williams DeckScape product. I've been hearing great things about the TWP products but I don't think they're available in solid colors.

The abuse boards can take i generally dont put to much effort in keeping them looking good as they are replaced often.I paint them Bota orange and hope they last a cutting season. But side boards are a must IMO if you cut a lot of wood or help the neighbor out cleaning horse stalls. You can pile a lot of shit literally in the back with tall rails.

Over the last few days I have been fabricating some 'greedy boards' for my Bota. Thought I'd share a pic.....

The waffle boards on the side are easily removed for use as traction mats. My plan is to make up some baskets etc to hang off the rails at a later date.

Looks good. All it needs to do is work.
Im still using the old 2x6 sides.Easy to replace when i break them.
Been fortunate only broke 1 so far. They dont like to have logs tossed into them sometimes.

I drew plans in Sketchup a couple of years ago not long after getting the buggy, just taken a while to find time to knock them up.
Like yours they are for moving around wood & horse muck along with compactor bags of chipped wood brash.

Thanks for the inspiration guys

Here's my rails, we did both of our RTV's this way. Rock solid and aluminum.

I have pieces of diamond plate that is bent at the top. You can slide them over the top bars and it clovers the openings so you can fill it with mulch etc. Then just quickly remove them. I haul alot of firewood so these sides are a great help.

Just did a simple 1" box tube rack for carrying tools. The shelf is removable and relocatable. The shelf also serves as a seat when lowered to the bottom rack position. It would be easy to add plywood temporarily to the sides for using the dump bed. I don't use the dump bed feature as I have heavier equipment for that purpose.

Nice. With plywood or mesh of some kind and a tailgate you could haul a large load of bulky material for sure!!!
