RTV900 )2004) Won't idle anymore

Been a while since I've visited (have done some peeking from time to time). My 2004 RTV900 with only 465 hrs has suddenly refused to idle. I was out in the woods picking up cordwood and left it idling while I loaded up. It suddenly stumbled and stalled and refused to start unless I gave it about 1/3 throttle and needs the same amount of throttle to keep running. As long as I keep the RPM up it behaves . Thought maybe fuel filter but if it was clogged I would think it might idle ok but be starved for fuel at more RPM???. Fortunately the unit has a hand throttle which allows me to keep using it but I have to leave the RPMS up with the hand throttle or it will stall when letting off the go pedal...

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

I have been reading another thread from 2018 that describes this exact problem...but the eventual resolution isn't indicated

Hi Kanook . Good to hear from you. :) I'd check the fuel filter- disconnect the hose and see if the fuel would gravity feed thru the end . Could be time for a replacement filter if it doesn't flow much? The filter is easier to get to if the little side panel there by the air intake ( on the old models) is removed. . It might also be a slight blockage in the fuel tank where fuel enters the hose. I sold my RTV a few years ago but that's where I'd start.

PROBLEM FIXED

Hey Bordercollie...Good to see you are still here and thanks for your response..Problem fixed..It was the linkage at the shutoff solonoid..I jiggled around with it and it suddenly retracted to normal position. Lubed it and all seems ok now. Hows that Mahindra treating you or have you trade again. I gotta check in here more often.

The Mahindra is doing nicely Kanook . Thank you for asking . :) I have about 5700 miles on it and intend to keep it for several more years.. I need to change my avatar I guess but still love those 2 departed pups (Millie and Belle) pictured. They were sisters and lived till their 16's . Today, we have 2 more sisters- Dixie and Willie. They are wonderful too.
