RTV Air Filter

I recently read on this site that one of the members was told by the dealer that with a high mount air filter you could eliminate the small inner filter which would give the RTV a little more power. I replaced my stock outer filter with a K&N E-4552 High Performance filter on my 2010 RTV 900. That K&N filter is a lifetime washable filter, but I don't think you spray it with K&N oil like you do the ones I have put on my on road vehicles. The K&N does give better filtering and a higher air flow.

Does anyone have an opinion on removing the inner filter with the high mount ?

Can you give it a shot on a nice clear day and let us know if there's a power improvement? Unless it's a notable increase, I'd just keep the inner filter in place.

well the more air it gets the stronger it should be.I still run both in mine and have changed the outter one several times but have never changed that 1 inch diameter inner.I may have to remove it and give it a try and see what happens.I think the secondary filter the one with what looks like a cotton wraping on it is to stop the real fine dust you would get from the stock position.I am really surprised of its location to begin with even my old mule had the highrise built right into the roll bar. This was always a poopy position for the air intake IMO...

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the hi-rise come with new canister as well as inner & outer filters? Are they doing a CYA having the inner there or is it needed or is it just there so they can make money from people replacing them?

I have a 2005 so someone else with a new machine needs to chime in I used the same cannister on mine but relocated the intake to the top of the machine instead of it being low behind the passenger side panel while leaving the old can where it was.

I bought the high-rise kit for mine (2004) and it came with a new canister and filters.

Got two HUHs here......CYA to this ol guy BC is Cover YOUR A##.....It is entirely different canister and yes they come with the inner and outer filters.... What does the CYA mean in your use of it......

Mark.Sibole......I also have a 2005 and it doesn't have to be a new machine to have the kit by Kubota to move the filter to the top and run down to the engine with tubing.....I assume you ran tubing to the air filter from the top of the machine down to the air filter itself in the original location as many other people do.......

Perhaps I am just having a hard time understanding what is written today, BC. and NO they don't have to be a "new machine"........... God bless.....Dennis

I bought the K&N filter (E-4552) for my rig. I thought I was buying the oiled type which I have been very happy with on 2 pickups. WRONG! (should have read description better:pat:)

This new version is not oiled. It let dirt pass through it to the secondary safety filter right off the git go.
I complained to the company and they sent me another one but I haven't used it enough to see if if works better than the first.

Whatever you do keep the secondary filter in place, even on a hi-mount. It is excellent insurance against a damaged or defective filter, or one just not doing it's job to 100%.

Hope this helps.

Oh I know it i was just to cheap to buy the kit. When all it took was running a pipe from the original inlet and moving it to the top.As Im not sure on newer models i dont know if they actually did something right and put it up top where it should have to begin with.Hell if Kawasaki can do it they could have done it IMO

RTV Air Cleaner

I got the High Mount Air Cleaner and Hand Throttle on today. Really like the Hand Throttle.

The HMAC Kit puts the Air Cleaner up near the top of the cab, where it really should be. I tried it with and without the inner filter in place and couldn't really tell much difference. Not enough running time to tell but I will let you know. It is not dusty here and I am not too worried about it.

The Kenda Executioners look great and should really dig. Kinda like my tractor tires.

Just finished comparing my RTV power with and without secondary air filter. I warmed up the unit well and the tested it on a steep grade on my driveway.
Result: Strictly based on speed without a load on the unit, no difference with pedal fully depressed. (Achieved 9mph in medium speed w/ and w/o secondary filter)
Later, I may try it with wide open hand throttle and feather the pedal to get the secondary pump engaged and also load some weight in the dump box.

Added K&N to Homemade High Rise Intake

I came across a K&N air filter for cheap and just installed it to the top of my homemade high rise air intake. This is an oiled filter that I had to clean and re-oil. It was 6.5" long less flange, 5" diameter, with a 2-5/8" inside flange diameter. I already had the flex exhaust pipe with the 2" PVC pipe with 90 degree elbow attached to the top of it. I added a 2"PVC straight coupling which fit into the 2-5/8" filter opening and used a screw clamp to hold it on. Since my 2010 RTV has no doors, I positioned the filter under the roof as shown in picture. I did not remove the outer K&N filter E-4552(non-oiled) and the inner filter in the filter box below. The K&N filter on top should not create any resistance, but I will do a performance test later to confirm.
