for my hpx i just put a bungee cord on each side and connected it to the handle on the bed and the other end to the cab when i hit the lever to release the bed it was like having two people lifting it up . worked out great.

Ah that would work.
I thought of that also but with a full load of wood on it im looking 700 to 800 pounds and didnt think a bungee would lift the weight.
If I was still healthy and My Multiple Sclerosis wasnt kicking my ass id do it the old fashed way Make the wife do it lol

I bought into the gas lift assist as well. I have had it on my 900 for about 6 months now, when new it worked great, it would pop up with just the smallest amount of force even with a full load of wood. If the bed was empty it would almost dump on it's own and was not too hard to close. But now it takes 2 hands to lift the bed with just a plastic tool box. I will say that when it's up it will hold the bed up with out the latch. Their idea is great I just think they have used to small of gas tube. I keep forgetting to contact them about a replacement tube. BTW the guys were great to deal with and had the unit in 2 day after my call. I think I'm going to look into a 12vdc screw jack like Northern has for about $150. Not knocking the product I thought it was great when I first put it on but it has has lost it's oop.

You may have gotten a bad one its hard to say.Look how long a gas shock lasts on hatch backs or hood supports.Time will tell and if it needed to be replaced in time the shock itself is less than 25 bucks.
I may also look into drilling and tapping the oposite end and adding balls and another gas shock and run duo shocks.Even if I have to replace the shock once a season it wont bother me to much as it will save my back a lot.Having Multople sclerosis I try to make things as easy as I can and with Twin Boys I dont have a lot to spend.Thank God the Machine was purchased pre kids

That's what I think as well. They have a good idea but like you I think having a twin lift gas tube would be better. While it worked it was real good. Having other equipment around the farm having a dump bed is not important for me, just helps to lift the bed for servicing.
