Mogman, no idea what you have, RTV/Tractor/Excavator?

Anyway, just listen for the sound and unhook a wire would be my first try.

And go to Messick and request a parts diagram for the wire harness and you should find the beeper or at least get a better idea where it is hidden.

Most are located at the rear of the machine to warn others so you don't back over them.

Good luck.

Is that something new they have put on newer RTV's. I don't have a reverse beep.

If you have a RTV setup for road use they have a reverse beeper. Where I live the city has two RTV's for reading meters.

Mogman,
I suspect it was added or like suggested, it's a road vehicle.

On an RTV I would think the linkage under the dash would be the location for the switch that turns the beeper on, so my first look would be there.

The only other place would be on the top of the transmission where the linkage is for the transmission. The off/on switch could be mounted there.

The rest is cables between the shift linkage and transmission and unless they have a special cable with built in switch it should not be there. Me thinking it's too expensive to manufacture a cable for a backup beeper. Simple on/off switch must be somewhere that is easy to mount.

Keep looking.

Oh, and if you find one, just turn the key on and press the switch to activate the beeper to help identify if you have the right switch.

I'm with spudman on the switch location. The trans linkage is on top of the transmission and the back up beeper switch looks like to mounts in a pair of holes in the trans casting. The Rev and M location of the shift arm are fairly close and a slight misalignment could cause your problem. With the bed up it's on the passengers side top. the one closest to the cab is the shifter. You can see it move when you move the lever.
