Preventing rot on dump body

I was just blowing out the tiny joint between the head wall and bottom of my RTV X1100C dump body and realized that in just two years quite a bit of material has accumulated in the rail under the joint between the head wall and the floor of the dump body. With the dump body up I blew compressed air into the crack and then went under the rail on the bottom and tons of debris flew out (wear glasses!). Did this many times until all the debris was blown out - it took a while. Glad I found this void as even with the protective coating I am sure that this would have hastened the rotting process. I haul firewood, sand, stone, wood chips, etc., so over time the little things worked their way down the small joint. I wash my machine regularly, but regular washing just makes it wet and will not drive it out.

Thank you for posting this, I just bought a Kubota RTV 1100C and with winter coming I will make sure to treat and clean the areas. I would also like to know if anyone posted plans on a homemade rear cargo screen, new at Messicks's $245 I haven't checked yet where I bought the RTV but I assume about the same or maybe more. I've searched here and youtube but I haven't found anything yet on building one with some pattern material from a steel shop, I believe it can't be too difficult.

Chances are, the rear window screen cost is substantially cheaper than a new back window. Think of it as permanent insurance you only buy once. I bought the screen right up front. I don't have to worry about buying a new rear window & the screen later on. The steel on the screen is not real heavy, maybe 20 or 18 gauge, but it doesn't need to be heavy to protect the window from getting popped. It appears to be made out of light gauge expanded metal. It also makes a good place to mount your SMV placard and a license plate.

Yes, i recall seeing the cost of a window awhile ago while looking for a cargo screen, not recalling the exact cost I realize buying the screen is much less. I just called the dealer where I bought the Kubota but left a message, bad time around noon I suppose. Messick's has them for $244 plus shipping, I suppose i will buy a screen made in the factory, it will look good but I'm a bit surprised nothing found on-line of someone crafting one. I've had 4 wheelers for some time but I've decided something enclosed with heat and windows is what I now prefer, I'm glad I found this forum. Thank you for your reply!
