poor mans windshield

I would love to know how many actually tried this tip.
I have already put this winters windshield on.

I sorta did. I stole the pvc idea. I bought the window kit but figured it wouldn't make it through the brush I go through. I instead got a cheap piece of plexiglass, cut it to fit and put it on with zip ties. I'll take it off in the spring and put the plexiglass up for next winter. Works really good, thanks for the insperation.

windshield met its match

Hey guys. This winters windshield met its match. There is a bullet hole in it. I do have a weekend only neighbor with a lot of young hunters in the mix. I figured they nailed it during deer season. Just put clear tape over the hole. No big deal.

I just bought my Rtv 900 one week ago. I found this forum the next day and have been reading old posts since then. I came across this thread and knew that this was something that I needed to do. Yesterday, I installed it and took the Kubota for a drive in 10 degree weather. It was as if I was driving a new vehicle. No wind effect and it is a lot easier to talk to your passenger than before. It seems that the plastic somehow makes it more quiet in the cabin, or maybe it was just because my lips were no longer frozen together. My RTV has a plastic hardtop, so to avoid the mounting problems with the hardtop u-bolts, I just made an additional PVC cross bar for the top of the window film and installed it with duct tape just like the bottom cross bar. It worked perfectly. Kerry, thank you for the brilliant and cheap solution to driving this guy around in the dead of winter.:clap::clap:

...... plastic helps, most is the frozen-lip syndrome. We've all been there !!!!!

If itkeepsthe rain out and the cold wind off you then its worth its weight in gold no matter how cheap it is to make.good job

put enough on it and it could act like a slingshot. you'll be riding one day with someone and let off the pedal next thing you know you fly forward and then get slung out the rear of the rtv.lol i think they make pink and yellow wrap you could do a hippie theme if you wanted to.

I just took it off for the summer. Attached is a photo of the bottom cross brace for the windshield. It is 2 inch PVC. Cut it so it wraps the roll bar and make it a tight wedge fit.

Don't let it touch the dash as it will put rub marks on it.

I'm going to put one of these poor man's windshields in this weekend if it warms up enough. Just wondering what the trick is to making a neat rounded cut in that pipe like you did?

(Pic of the one Kerry did is below)

Doc, a 2" diameter holesaw used in a drill press would do this cut wonderfully.
Yep, it sure would, but I don't have a drill press dang it. Maybe I can hold it in the vise and get er done with my drill.

Thanks pepr.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Kerry for this incredibly cheap and easy solution. I installed my windshield a bit before Christmas and it works like a dream! My accountant (also my wife) is pleased I didn't need to go out and spend $700 on a windshield.

A pic of the fabricated framework and the useless double stick tape

A pic before breaking out the hair dryer. I reinforced the upper corners with duct tape around the light brackets before stretching it tight and having it tear.

Note: I also covered over the back screen to prevent cold air and snow from hammering the back of my neck. I like how it works but it makes an annoying drum like noise when the plastic flutters and slaps against screen.

Still better than snow down your neck though!

Good job Wild Bill. My wife's hair dryer would not get hot enough in my cold garage so I still have some waffles in part of the windshield. No biggie. Sure is better than cold cold air smacking you in the face. I plan to install it earlier next fall when I can get the hair dryer hotter. :D

Ingenious idea by Kerry. I love it. :clap;
