your description of the internal spark arrester is exactly what I have on my 09 1100. I removed all of the internal screen for a little better performance and less maintenance. The screen tends to plug up and cause a loss of power. Perhaps the reduction in weight will allow it to last longer.

Did the removal of the spark arrester actually make a noticable difference in power ? Never thought to check mine. Add it to the list.

Yes it did improve power because at the time I cut it off it was three quarters plugged with soot. Guess I wasn't using it hard enough eh! Anyway probably not a difference when clean and new, but after 20 miles of use they are not clean and new anymore.
