Little help please

OK.. I'm normally not one to ask for help and definately not one to want sympathy, but a simple prayer or two sure won't upset the delicate balance of nature.

I found out this afternoon that in addition to the blood sugar issues, I've been diagnosed with an advanced case of prostate cancer. Not sure what the immediate future holds. It's apparently spread into my liver and possibly in the bones already. Didn't even show up 6 months ago.

Treat me just like normal, just say a prayer when you have time. I need 'em.

My EX "Doctor" told me 3-5 years, 17 years later, I will put you on my prayer list and hopefully you will have the same results.

Continued thanks folks. Scheduled appointment for urologist today. That's friday. They'll do a "digital exam" and set up a time for a biopsy. Also scheduling an MRI sometime early next week. Doctor called late today and said "endocrinologist" (hope I spelled that one right) read numbers and conferred with 2 other specialists. He thinks liver/kidneys MAY be uneffected so far.

Blood sugar consistantly under 120 now. High of 117, low 109 today. Holding very steady, with gradual improvement

I FEEL better than I have in months. That aught to count for something.

I've decided that no matter what the outcome, my life is about to make a few radical changes. One will be living a healthier lifestyle. Another will be to "stop and smell the roses" . My wife and I have worked since our feet hit the ground. I've spent 2/3rds of my life pursuing various college degrees, working all day, farming evenings and weekends, and running the mowing business. We've raise 3 kids, and have a very active role in helping to raise our grandkids. That's WAY too much. Our kids and grandkids will take on a bigger role and the long hours of work will be reduced quite a bit. The boys will get ALL of the mowing business. After all, my rationalization for starting that was to build a business for them to run together. It's time to enjoy a more CASUAL life. I've had a good run. It's time to take a break.

A nickels worth of free advice to all. Don't wait until a life-changing event comes along to change your life. Find time, find a way to live your life in harmony with your dreams. We only get one shot at this. Enjoy life.

OK. I promised that I'd keep everyone up to date, so here's the latest.

I spoke with the urologist yesterday. Biopsy is next wed (28th) @10AM. He's the very same one who treated my dad 15 years ago. He's evaluated test numbers, ect, and he agrees things aren't that bad at this point.

Started 2 new meds monday. Lipitor and Niacin.

Blood sugar averaging 111, lowest 103. Slowly dropping.

Lost 16lbs as of yesterday.

I turned over POA and control of the checkbook for the business to my son. It's theirs now. I'm no longer a full-time employee. (And I just bet I'll keep my nose out of THAT:yum: )

And with this as motivation, but NOT as a sign of flying a white flag, meeting with our attorney on monday to update will/living will, ect.

I might have to admit my own mortality, but I DON'T have to accept it as a friend. I plan on out living all of you:wink:

I didn't have to give up Cokes.

I drank Pepsi:yum:

Actually, it WAS Caffine Free Diet Pepsi, but even that's on the endangered species list. Now it's water, crystal light, water, tomato juice (home made), water, and then MORE water.

Even if I don't live forever, it'll SEEM like forever:eek:

Absolutely fantastic news....and now I'm more comfortable with the fact that you will post upgrades and completed new projects - new found time (and play time off).

FWJ...I don't know how old you are, but I'm 64 going on 65 in May. I really admire you for your honesty and willingness to share. I must admit that, unlike you, I have a tendency to hide my weaknesses. I've shared some of your posts with my wife and she feels the same way about your sharing with us. You are a strong person, and that projects a lot about your character. Let me say that if I knewyou personally, I'm sure you would be a been a close friend, not that your not here. The song "Me and Jesus" is playing on my radio station. I'm sure you and him have a good thing goin'. keep those posts coming.

Very well said Nica. :tiphat:
I meant to compliment Junk on that. A very hard thing to do indeed. It does indeed say lots about his character and him as a man. Course, his other posts give a very good hint of the type of quality guy he is. This just reenforces it.
Cheers Junk!

If Diet Pepsi is on the endangered list, beer is probably out as well :sorry:
My Step Dad is in the waiting stage to see what his scans say about a spot on his lung. He had a lobe of one lung removed 20 some years ago. Hopefully we'll hear soon what's going on with him.

FWJ, losing that 16 pounds and keeping your glucose levels at 111 or lower are great news. I keep an eye on mine everyday and right now they seem to stay below 100 which is great for me.

Well Bill, although this is serious sh-t, your posts are showing much more promise than the dread your first post held.

I know some guys going through a similar trial, (what a long way medical science has come in the last twenty years), the guys are doing good, one choose surgery, another a radioactive pellet. Five years no further signs, and two years no sign. Not to say it's a given, but caught in time means good outlook.

Back in the 70's and earlier, it was more of a crapshoot, today we have weapons against cancer that work.

Right this minute I appreciate the www. and forums that give us a way to meet (in a way) and share. Good thoughts and prayers for you from........

Wow. Late to the party here. Doug... I can't help thatbyou went to school with a tablet and chisel to take notes. Think how strong that made you forearms for those backhoe controls....:yum::yum:.. that said

My thoughts and prayers are with ya junk. Sounds like things are on the positive side. I REALLY hope and pray that they decide it is not in your liver. You I was lucky enough to get a reality check of my own on 2002 when it took them an hr and 20 min to get me out of a Freightliner... enjoy life and your grand kids.. this will work it way out.

And all the while, I thought I was just being a whiner:pat:

In the end, all our strengths and weakness's come out for the world to see. No sense in trying to fool myself into thinking I'm going to fool myself or any one else.

I'd like to think all of us, should we meet on a city street someday, would immediately be friends. There's a very strong bond forming here on this site. Lots of good people.

I'm not very "vocal" with my religious beliefs. IMHO, it's what you DO and how you live...it's the example you set that matters and not so much what I have to say. Only one man has ever walked this earth that had the right to tell us how good of a person he is.

By the way, I'm 60 y.o.

Thanks Doc. No beer:beer: Alcohol turns straight into sugar. Plus high calory content. I didn't drink too many to begin with. I bought a 12-pack on Kentucky Derby weekend last year. There's still 5 in the fridge.
