Kubota, I'm Sorry ....

My snapper has a pivoting front axle works great

Hey Peanut,
Back in the very early '70's, Snapper had a Comet series lawn mower.
We had a Comet 26. ,,,,, 7HP Briggs Engine. Fuel Tank was on the
side. Held 1 whole gallon of fuel. Cranked first pull EVERYTIME.
Picked it up on back bars to sharpen blades.

......... two guns

I had a Snapper 26" like that, but with a 5 HP Briggs. After 10 years or so using it like a tractor, I finally wore out the engine, and replaced it with an 8 HP Briggs I/C , but the darned thing backfired every time I stopped it, and I had to sand off the magneto every year in Florida. The next year, I had to completely rebuild the rear end. Replaced several drive wheels, kept chewing chunks out of them. I think I got my money's worth out of it in 25 years.

I did a compromise - on the advice of my Kubota dealer. I bought a Grasshopper with a 25 HP Kubota Diesel engine. He said it was a better mower than the Kubota for my purposes.

It's got a 60 inch front mount mower which works better on a farm for cutting under fence, brush, etc., then a midmount mower. The mowing quality might be a tad less than a midmount but the thing just sucks the grass and weeds into the decks. It'll suck a piece of newspaper into the deck from a foot away.

It sips fuel even better than than the RTVs. I bought the high price German over-the-road truck seat and I could mow in it all day long. The joysticks work great, too. Zero fatigue.

The only drawback is that it is noisy. Hearing protection is a necessity. The engine runs full tilt driving the hydraulics (noisy) and the blades tip speed must be right at supersonic (noisy).

But it is one fantastic mower. Also, it is a heavy hunk of steel. It cuts just as well in the rain as when it is dry but it WILL leave a tire mark in soft soil with the bar tread tires.

The only problem I have is getting my girlfriend off the Grasshopper so that I don't have to use the Cub (also a good little mower for the price).

I have kubota zd 331 with 72 inch cut. I cut close to 6 acres about every 5 days since we have had such a wet spring and summer. Love the diesel, just need 1 fuel for all tractors, rtv, mower. Now just need someone to come out with cab model zero turn.

My friends I'm staying with out here in Kansas tried the same mower out this weekend in their RV park, and bought it. Their 9 year old Ferris with a 27 hp Kohler has been problematic for them ever since they got it, so I'm sure they will be happy with the new mower. Hopefully I'll get to run it for them some this summer, too. I agree with you about the cab!
