Knuckle case/Front axle oil change

SUDT or gear lube?

I just got finished doing this on my new-to-me 2005 900 model with 261 hours. I've already done the engine and tranny fluids and filters, but this front differential was a royal PITA!

But my real question has to do with what I found when I drained the front gearbox. Definitely NOT either UDT or SUDT. Looked to me like it was 80-90 wt. gear lube.

Seems like I recall seeing a thread somewhere on here which I cannot find now that some (all?) Kubota dealers are putting gear lube in the axles? I replaced with UDT, but is there some tech bulletin out recommending use of gear lube instead of what the owner's manual and service manual say? :confused2:

My manual says.. Kubota UDT or Super UDT..... My manual is out of date though....still never had a problem with the 05 and it had over 4,200 hours on it when I sold it ... and over 2,000 on this one so far.. I will try to check my 2011 manual tomorrow - it is at the barn..
Maybe someone with a recent manual can shed some light on this. bordercollie

My Kubota B7610 tractor's front hub allows one to use UDT or 80/90. Yes, the manual for it says that. Perhaps that is where the RTV myth got started???

The set of seals on the wheel hub on my left wheel were weeping a bit of fluid when I was using UDT. No it was no more than a spoonful in total but it was there. After changing to 80/90 the thing is dry as a bone...........Who is to say????

YES, I use what the factory recommends in the RTV...SUDT2..........God bless........Dennis

IMHO,
80/90 is great in warmer climates and UDT/SUDT is better for areas that get below 0 degrees as it lubricates better at low temps.

SUDT would be my choice for Canada.

And 80/90 for Texas.

In between you decide.

Sawdust and banana peels are only good to keep things quiet if you want to take that nap while driving down the trail by yourself.

Collie, it wasn't me! lol I just had to throw that in. We had a used car salesman around here that was bad to do that to a tranny or rear end that was making noise. Worked long enough for him to sell it and then the new owner was in for a real treat. :pat:

I am planning on servicing my 1140 this weekend. The book specifies SUDT or UDT for the knuckles and front axle. I just phoned my dealer and they indicated that they use 80W90 for the knuckles and front axle for changes. Has anyone else used this?

Someone in the past has mentioned this. I just use the sudt2 . I never had any leaks in my machines using it. Good Luck. collie

NOT an RTV but a Kubota B7610...........The owner's manual for the tractor advises either sud2 OR 80/90. I was using the SUD in the front axle for awhile but developed some weeping around the knuckle. Changed to 80/90 and it stopped.........

BUT....I am NO engineer at least not on paper and I pretty much follow what the mothership advises..........in the RTV it's SUD2...........God bless.......Dennis
