I have a 2008 John Deere 5203 with only 168 hours on it. Last week while mowing Hay the mount for the PTO engagement lever broke off. The mount is part of the Transmission cover. The Dealer will replace the cover under warrenty but said this is a common problem. Just wondering if any one else has had this problem. Cheers Pefea

This happened to me yesterday, I was wondering if this a common thing? Has it happened to others? This is going to be a expensive repair and it doesn't seem to be a normal wear issue?
 
When mine broke the Dealer said it was a common problem. You have to replace the Transmission cover. I made a bracket for mine after it was repaired so it would not happen again.
 
Mine is an older Deere but my PTO engagement arm broke off at nearly new. The shaft going into the tranny was still OK. They re-welded it on which lasted another few hours. I gave up and put a set of vice-grips on the shaft and use those as my arm. It's been working fine that way for about 14 years.
