Improved Shifting

I have discovered that for my 2016 X1100c, that shifting into reverse or low can be improved by pushing the shifter toward the desired gear, and then very lightly touching the foot pedal. If the foot pedal is pushed hard enough for the engine speed to increase, then there is gear grinding, so the object is a very light touch on the foot pedal that must allow the transmission to just start to spin, allowing the gears to mesh.

Hey Lee. I figured that out too, or lightly tap the petal while shifting at the same time, I would imagine as they break in we will not have as much trouble shifting. I read on here that if you really get it in a bind like on a hill or I was pushing brush today into a pile and it would not shift out of gear turn the wheel all the way to one side and it pops right out. Next time it happens I will try the float on the dump, sometimes when I have to much pressure to hook up hoses on my dingo if I pop it into float they go right on.

Yep, I use the accelerator trick too. Just a tap, not enough to rev the engine at all. Also, don't forget about the brake pedal.

If that does not work, pushing the brake pedal can help. Yesterday R was not going in and tapping gas did not help. Pushing brake and she slipped right in. No clue why either would help shifting but they do ..so I go with it.

In the later models the brake pedal also activates a relief valve in the HVT. Supposed to release the pressure and allow shifting.

My '08 has this feature but it was out of adjustment when I got it. After researching and properly adjusting, it works much better. Hold the brake pedal down firmly for maybe two seconds and you can feel the HVT release. Then shifting is much easier.

Under extreme conditions you might still have some problems. I never use my pressure release knob on the dash anymore.

Best remedy is patience. I struggle with that.....

I thought the brake activated pressure release feature replaced the dash knob....but I have an 04 that has neither...went lookin at a new 1100 factory cab unit yesterday.....sure was purtty.

I did that ONCE. Caused too much stress. My WANT exceeded my NEED.

Aren't the new cab models nice!!!! You shut the door and it's like being in a road vehicle. Quiet, tight, well equipped. Very nice.

To get over the stress one just needs to ask the salesman how much? ;)

The other thing that causes my 04 to shift hard is if the plow still has pressure on the snow I've pushed. Lifting the blade usually takes care of that issue.
