I cheated on my NH

Was at my in-laws house Friday afternoon and cut 3 pine trees down. One of them dropped straight down instead of falling. The top of it was caught in other trees so it was just standing there. Monica and I together couldn't pull it down. We went to get his new Massey GC2600. It pulled it over w/o issue.

After the trees were down, I used the tractor to carry them to the trailer and drop them. First I liked how much room the tractor had over my NH, but that is where the likes ended. Don't mean to offend anyone, but the NH is just a much better laid out tractor - even though mine is 6 years older.

First the parking brake lever is small and hard to engage with gloves on. Though at least it didn't release like my NH one does. It has the 2 pedals vs. the rocker. When you would let off the pedal it wouldn't return to neutral you had to push the other pedal to "release." Made it almost impossible to "ease" up to the trailer. I would find myself close and then all of sudden I was backing away about to dump my load on the ground. Push the brakes on as hard as you could and the tractor would still creep. You push the brakes on my NH and you better hang on, you are stopping. Diff lock was activated my your toes or your hand, couldn't figure out which way would have been better. I like my heel engagement much better. Levers seemed close to gether and lots of them. Seemed like more than my NH. New labeled or identified by feel very well either. I did like the joystick handle, but for me it was in an uncomfortable position. Loader seemed small - not just narrow, but not very deep either. I know I'm comparing a sub-cut to a cut, so I'm sure the 100 HP NH guys would say the same about my TC24. The bucket also didn't dump very far. At height, I can dump my bucket to the point the lip is starting to point back to you. I bet this on was still at probably 60 degrees to the ground. If working in dirt and such, might have a problem getting it to dump cleanly - even the wood wouldn't completely come out.

I wouldn't trade my NH for it, but I guess that is why there are different manufacturers. Everyone has different tastes. Oh, I like my blue paint better too. But at least his was clean.:yum:

Good post Jim.
Don't think of it as cheating, think of it as giving the NH a weekend off. :yum: :D
