Happy New Years

Obsolete is what I is!
I resemble that.

I can turn on an iPad and then.... well... the hell with it.

I hand the kids my cell phone when I need someone added to the address book.

But. So long as there's mainframes, COBOL, JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM etc, I still have a place in the world. Don't even know if they're teaching that in college anymore. Heck, back in the late '80s, I worked for a large, international consulting firm and my job was to teach new employees coming out of college programming things using COBOL, JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM. We had other classes for subjects like CICS, IMS DB/DC, IDMS/ADSO and a series for management.

I learned programming in Fortran IV on a large IBM mainframe with punch cards. While I enjoyed the challenge I'm glad I went on to Chemistry. Glad some of you folks stayed with it. Bob

Old mainframe hardware guys may recall

"Dow Jones Prices Up....Buy General Motors Stock"

or

Opout...Addressout....Holdout....Selectout

and laying those 100' Bus and Tag cables before escon came along.

and head crashes on 2311, 2314, 3330 dasdi

or

those StorageTech tape silos.

Now where'd I put my RTV keys?
