fully hydraulic curtis plow

I had the same experience. Too much snow on the blade and it will not lift. I actually thought it was at the top and started backing up only to find it was still dragging. Just too weak a system on the lift for this Curtis plow. My ATV Moose plow and winch system would actually help get me moving in situations like this because it had enough power to lift and push the ATV back at the same time when in deep heavy snow.

Only downfall I see is extra money to put out, but the benefits outway that in one season of plowing. Great work guys and thank you very much for a fine solution. I checked today with a local hyd dealer and he is getting me prices.

In my opinion they should have something like this from the factory. Heavy wet snow has no affect on the little hydraulic cylinder. Like I said that cylinder has 1700lbs. lifting force and over 1000lbs. pulling force according to the tech help page fromsurplusscenter.com. Honestly as of yet I do not see any down falls to the mod sometimes it pays off to try something new.Well wait I would'nt call thisa down fall but it does take some getting use to is how fast the plow goes up its very easy to lose your snow pile but a hour of plowing and you get used to it. This was avery easy jobto doin fact I was in disbelief when I got done putting it together so quickly and everything went together as planned and let me tell ya that rarely happens with me.At firstI thought this plow was ok but now with it being fully hydraulic its awesome.

And that leads into my next question. How to slow down the hyd? Going by what you are saying both the angle and up/down are going to be really quick. Mine angles in a snap almost. Someone must know of a flow control that could slow things down a touch.

Any expert flow control experts out there?

Most farm stores/tractor dealershave various types of inline flow restrictors. I use one that you actually drill a hole to fit your needs. Bought mine at atractor dealer. They canusually advise you on what you need. jerry

I am trying to finish up my order for hydraulic parts and have 1 last question... Anyone know what type of quick coupler is used on the RTV? Specifically the rear dump bed hoses. Lots of options on the web site at:

S40-1, S40-3, SAE-8, and on and on...

Thanks

This is what I found in my snow plow manual, 1/4" snap tite #72 f. disconnect coupler. Not sure if this is it, but I all so found this website sells them possibly. So Dig I am assuming you do not have the power angle allready? Well if thats the case this will be pretty cheap mod for you, good luck I hope that website will help you out.

Thanks for the info - that helps a bunch! I'm trying to take this in baby steps as my wife keeps saying... "you are too lazy to get out of the cab to turn the blade?" I added some large - shoes from a full size plow last weekend. Had to do some welding but was able to move them back and get them to work. The additional weight of the shoes made it evident that the actuator was in pain. It looks like $150 will make my lift hydraulic. Then maybe next year a couple hundred more will get me the turning. Unfortunatly, I would have to also buy 2 cylinders.

Thanks again for the help.

I'm not sure how you found surplus center but I really like them. I contacted them to see if any of the quick couplers they sell would work with the snaptite S10. They said the S10 series couplers (item number 9-1626) cross to the snaptite series. I pasted a link below showing the cross reference and the surplus center matching coupler.

Thanks everyone for the help on this. I have never been on a forum with more helpful and talented people.

Remember to up load your pictures when you get done I want to see how she looks. Dig you will not regret changeing your lift, you probly will be like me saying they shoulod have done this from factory.

Supposed to get the parts tomorrow. An early Christmas present to myself. I think I'm also as excited as the year I picked up the RTV a few days before Christmas. One last questions for my hydraulic brothers. Teflon tape or some other magic goo on the threads when putting together this stuff?

I installed the hydraulic upgrade last night. I found that my estimate on hose length from the rear to the front was perfect. If anyone is thinking of doing this a 12 ft hose works great. I also over-ordered the 9-69-01-6-4 sae 6m x 1/4 nptf 90 swivel connectors. I was thinking I could use them between the couplers and the end of the hose. I should have looked closer. So, I have 4 extra if someone needs them. I will get some pictures taken of the hydraulic upgrade as well as shoe upgrade over the next couple days and upload them

It does lift VERY fast but after lifting it a couple times I figured out how to feather it so I am assuming after some time in the seat with some snow it will not be a problem. What a difference over the old actuator. Love it!

Also, robuta, thanks for all of the research and for sharing it with us. I will try to build anything but I am not very good with hydraulics and was worried about finding the right stuff to do this. You made it so easy and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to share and help the rest of us out.

Thanks again!

No problem buddy thats what its all about. I am glad it worked out well for you. I'm sure you will think that its awesome when you start using it, and if your like me and you have to back up alot that hydraulic cylinder will save you a ton of time. And also Dig I did one other upgrade thats right up your alley. I cut and welded 3/16" plate steel and installed it were the old bracket was that lifted the blade this let me get two more inches of lift because i did not like the plow hitting the ground when it was turnrd fully to one side. I will post pictures if your interested.

~~~~~~~ Always said, some of the smartest people on earth is RTV owners !!!!
Being we don't have any need for snow plows down here, but we sure have enjoyed watching these projects carry on ~~~
Yes please load up some pics. I got my hydraulic conversion completed yesterday. Equipment came from Princess Auto here in Canada (they have a website). Just need to complete the wireing today. Works great. Easy to tell it has lift power and lots of it now. Thanks for the idea. I'll take some pics as well and show you the results.
Didn't have a push button switch so made do until one is purchased. Also testing this switch location and may change switch setup later. Elbows ordered for cylinder, but even straight worked out not too bad.
