FF down?

No problem saying you got a database error Erik. It happens. While in the process of moving servers I updated the DNS entry early. So all went well, my new gigabyte backbone allowed me to transfer our 3.5 gig database in less than 10 minutes. :thumb: That is a huge improvement from when we moved from Chicago. it took over an hour. so now all I had to do was restore the database. No biggie, I've done it plenty of times before. But since the database is so big it takes awhile for the restore to build all the tables and get everything in place. Over an hour. So I kicked off the restore ....1 1/2 hour later I find out that my network hiccuped sometime after an hour of building the database. The end effect was the door on the database slammed shut at an unknown point. Only way around it is to restore it all over again. So, that took a little over an hour. Made the outage about twice what it should have been.
The reason you saw database error was because the database did not exist when you were clicking on the site. I put it all in place once the restore was done at a few minutes after 5.
We are back now. If anyone reading this can't see the new site go to a dos window and do a:
ipconfig /flushdns
Then reload the site. With a little luck you should see the new FF server.

Dang it. The DNS is hosted on the same server but the IP address of FF changed.

at a DOS prompt do a:
nslookup forumsforums.com
if ti comes back with the last 3 numbers being .193
then you should be hitting the right FF server.
If the last three numbers come back as .186 that is the old server and you don't have a chance to get to the right server until you DNS host figures out where FF now lives.
If you see .193 but still can't get there, then the ipconfig /flushdns should help fix that for you.
Hope to see you there soon.

After nslookup returned .193 and /flushdns returned Successfully flushed, no joy.

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

Sure don't understand that Chris. If your PC knows FF lives at the 193 but it's still going to the 186 address. I thought a flush would fix dns but maybe a reboot is in order. no need now since you are there just wondering .....

All previous attempts were from a laptop on wireless, no go so ............

I reset the DSL modem and router and did a reboot on my home desktop (Location of the modem and router) and did a flush. Hurray it worked on the desktop but then I had to do a flush on the laptop and it finally loaded.

Now I'm at work and guess what ............. same thing, no go. I am able to run as admin on XP Pro here but the flush ain't cutting it .................. *sigh*

Any more ideas?

Sorry BD. It is all up to your DNS router which is totally out of your control. Nothing we can do to speed it up, it has to figure out that a new record was created for FF and NCT. I have members on NCT with the same issue. I've also heard from Nixon who is having the same issue (he is up in PA also).
If you get the right IP address in your nslookup then your machine should find FF. If not that is when a ipconfig /flushdns can clear out old entries and make your machine have to go out and ask DNS for FF's address and that should update your machine with the new DNS record.
Wish there was something else I could do to help from this end. I thought doing DNS the way I did would cause the least pain to all our members. I was wrong. Both DNS outages have been long and painful. All we can do is wait. I apologize for the extended outage.

WHat is the IP address for FF ...?

I forced 66.76.169.193 and got NBT but still can't get FF

That is the right IP Dawg.

Wifes bday today ....made a trip to Amish country and stopped by to see our buddy Tom Lesco of TomsEQ.
Good day. Hope to H you've been able to get in long ago.

Dawg, try again and let me know if you can get there.
I shut off the primary DNS server to test the backup DNS server functionality.
Sounds like the backup is not working right.
I made one change around 9:30 ...so it might be alright now.

I just tried to call you Greg ...but the number I have is no longer a good number. I think it was from a year or so ago.
I don't see you on FF, but you aren't active here either. Just trying to find out if my backup DNS server is working right ....or not.
Call me or post here if you can't get to FF.
