Evening Fellas,
I Have lately noticed a different smell coming from my X1100C .. Not the exhaust,. Not the usual coolant smell when a leak is present . More lice hot silicon ?
Temp gage seems to be reading normal .
Ive read a little tidbit on google talking about trans heating up from solenoids malfunctioning .
C?P
Solenoids regulate fluid flow into and out of the transmission system. Faulty solenoids restrict smooth fluid flow through the system. This inhibits the fluid from cooling the system adequately, increasing the transmission’s temperature.
Solenoids misbehave with age. Monitor them closely and replace them with new ones immediately after they show signs of wearing out.

This smell is there after just a short time of running the machine say 10 mins.. First thought kinda smelled like a hanging Hot break ..
Checked all wheels . they seem to be fine. Cant place the source . But its for sure in the engine trans area .

Maybe one of those infrared temp guns could help you get to the bottom of this. If you don't already have one they are not expensive. I saw one for 8 bucks on amazon and here is a link to what they claim is best seller for 16 bucks.
I've found mine to be very handy to have around.

I have 2 of those that Doc linked to. They work very well. I have more expensive ones but the one in the link works just as well. They are "give or take" a few degrees of being accurate so they don't work properly for measuring your body temp by shooting it at your forehead.

I use them all over the place:
Check furnace duct temps to see how well the heat and A/C are running in the house.
Around windows and doors to check for poor insulation.
...

Well,, ive point and shot just about every spot in motor and trans housing ... dont see anything jumping out at me as way to hot.

Hopefully the smell just goes away. If not I'd keep checking. Good luck.
