A 5k harbor freight winch in on the RTV x1100c I bought last month. It looks sturdy and It works but I have not had to do any major pulls with it.

Doc, did you use a special mounting plate or make it yourself??

ko4bg, I have a 2011 900xt and i have a warn 2500 winch to lift my snow blade. it has a neat little cuby hole under the hood to protect the winch, does the x1100c have that ? Cheers,Scotty

Here's an old post on the topic. I mounted mine so I can use it in either the front or back receiver on my 900. It's hard to pull forward when the plow is mounted or the obstetrical is in front of the RV.

Well this Winch install has been a Fiasco from the word go!! First off the Winch Plate that was on the 900 didn't have the right hole pattern, NO problem I'm an Old Machinist~Well so Much for the OLD Machinist Part I got the Holes Off about a 1/4 of the Hole (told my wife I was ashamed to even say I was a Machinist) Next the Badlands was Too Long to fit where the Old one was mounted! Had to start cutting with a saws all, got that all done and Bolts supplied wasn't long enough to safely mount it on the Old Plate!! Finally got it mounted started Wiring, after tearing half the 900 apart to route the cables, I find they aren't LONG enough to reach the Battery (by about 3 ft) I live in the Country on a Farm so will have to go to town tomorrow to get more Cable!
This 3 hour Job has turned to more like 4 days! Man it SUCKS to Get OLD!!!:furious:

boy do i know what you mean ko4bg,25 year machinist and retired, my eyes are not as sharp as they used to be..I know this is a bit off topic but I can hardly read the dipstick on my 900xt trany, oil is so clear i cant see on dipstick, really pisses me off!...I am real careful about my oil levels, I wish the dipstick was flat black. Anybody have any ideas? i am shur not using paint!.....Back to ko4bg post, I live in a very small town, every time i need a small part its a 15 mile drive, gas in my truck cost more than part...anyway bud I hope you get your winch MT. figured out.....Cheers,Scotty

I was having trouble reading oil level on one of my machines so I took a couple pics of the dipstick, one with and one without flash. Enlarging those pics i was able to see the line. Maybe that could work for you too. Good luck.

A badland 5000 is a wide spool winch.Where a 3500 is a narrow spool winch.A 3500 will bolt to your bike with no mods required.I have had good luck with both.JOE
I found that out the Hard Way!! But with the weight of the 900 I ASS-U-Me'd that the larger would be better Should have done a Lot of Measuring, But I'm about done with it all Just Buttoning it back up now! ?

The John Deere dealer near you will have a green dye which can be added to hydraulic fluid to make it visible on the dipstick.... Add a few ounces and ...>VOILA!

I've had the Badlands 5000 on my '05 900 for about 6 years. Haven't had to winch the 900 out of anything (yet!), but have used it several times to raise/lower deer blinds on 12 foot towers. Works great. It's mounted on a receiver hitch-type plate so I can switch front to rear as needed. I have the HF winch remote and plug-in wiring so it's been very easy to use in either position. Sorry I can't attach pictures since my Dell laptop is out of service (again) where they reside.

My X900 was purchased with a Warn 4000 on the front and remote control and served by a dedicated second battery and aux battery charging system. It’s all been worthless to me as I’ve had zero need for it. To hoist a deer up into a tree...all that is needed is to tie a rope to it, throw it over a branch and tie it to the RTV and use Reverse to back up. Winch and battery system is dead weight as far as I’m concerned.

I've used my winch to pull trees off my trail. To pull a dead mower up the ramp onto the trailer to take to repair and other minor things I can't remember right now. I see a winch much like a spare tire and jack. You hope you don't have to use it but if you need it you are glad to have carried it along. Better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it kind of thing.

This Winch for me is sorta like my Wood Splitter I bought last year, My Daughter said WHAT do you Need with a Wood Splitter DAD, I told her Needing had NOTHING to do with it, I bought it Because I WANTED it!! So goes the Winch!! LOL

I had a coupon at harbor freight so last weekend I picked up a badland zxr 5000 winch for my x900. The x900 has pre drilled holes above the front hitch receiver and the winch bolt pattern fit perfect. The kit came with a rocker switch that matches the kubota switches and snapped right into one of the unused spaces on the dash. I mounted the relay under the hood and found the supplied 6 gauge cables were too short to reach the battery. I went to napa auto and bought 2 eight foot lengths of 4 gauge cable and terminals that cost almost fifty dollars. (ouch). All wired up and works great. I am using it to stretch wires in the vineyard. I needed controlled power to pull on top wire at the end post while tightening the anchor wire. I also picked up the badland wireless remote control that lets me run the winch from up to 50 feet. very convenient . The package said it only fit the 6000 and 9000 winch but it works fine with my 5000. Time will tell how long the winch lasts.

Hello Scotty. I got myself a tube of "Perma Blue" gun blue. Clean dipstick by putting in boiling water. Apply about 4 or 5 applications of bluing paste. Dipstick darkens up to a flat
