1020 tractor clutch issues

I’ve got a gas 1020 John Deere tractor that was not running when I got it busted block cracked head got a used block and head rebuilt it all now the transmission wont hardly go into gear grinds will go in low but grinds I put new clutch in it pressure plate re used throw out bearing I can hold clutch pedal down and turn clutch plate but it does have some resistance I had flywheel resurfaced clutch plate is not backwards I believe it had a pressure plate in it when I got it for a diesel motor but it was not a diesel motor I tried using all the original clutch parts that came with it at first because they looked new but had same problem any information would be greatly appreciated thank you

More about the 1020 tractor I believe it’s a 73 model it has the front and rear pto with the pto lever between the transmission shift levers the pto will go into gear now with transmission in neutral I can get tractor to go into low forward and reverse but that’s it grinds I can hold clutch down and start it in any gear and it don’t move any something is causing the clutch to not release just enough that it won’t work rite or that’s how it seems I don’t know I used the John Deere adjustment tool jd 227 to adjust pressure plate
