could be doing a restoration this summer

Hopefully Olecowhand will be along. He really knows his stuff on restoring tractors and garden tractors and has produced some pretty impressive looking machines. He also does decals, which is really handy if you cant get the originals any more.

    Splicing rope

Cheers guys. I gave it a go. First off, the rope is a little odd. It has 4 stands of the 'normal stuff' with a 5th nylon strand in the middle. I tucked the middle stand back down the inside of the length I was splicing the end to. Anyway, it doesnt look quite right. I'll have to see how strong...

    Splicing rope

I picked up a long length of a fair sized rope, about 1.5" diameter. I figure it'll make a decent towrope. Needs a loop in either end of it though. I was thinking of getting some of those steel eye inserts, but I need to splice a loop into the end of the rope around the insert. Anyone know...

    Float on 455

Just an update, the float kit really is just a bolt on affair. Just got to screw a machined rod onto the end of the spool, and then fit the new cap with the detent balls. I did have to adjust the lever so it went all the way into float, but no big deal. Why they fitted a spool machined for...

    First mow of the season

Been mowing a couple of weeks now here. 68 degrees right now, and with all the rain we have had the grass is shooting up. It could really do with a quick run over it with a chain harrow or something to lift the grass up. Maybe I'll go and borrow my sweeper back from my parents, that does a nice...

    Kubota Welds

1 case some welds on a loader being blatantly defective, very poor welding. That was on a new machine though. To tell you the truth, I think you'll have a very hard time getting the dealer to do anything.

    Kubota Welds

Got any pictures of the welds? Wouldnt be the first time I have heard of defective Kubota welds. Its pretty evident from the look of the welds if they are defective or not.

    Chicken tractor

I'm pretty sure Nicahawk had made one. I think we have some chicken experts around here somewhere.

Roller cabinets, who has one and are they worth it?

Mark, like Jerry's, the bottom cab on mine is much deeper than the top 2 boxes. I'll keep an eye on it though, dont want it falling forwards!!

Roller cabinets, who has one and are they worth it?

Cheers guys, stopped by and picked one up on sale today. Less than half price. Now I just got to see if all the tools will fit in it! Not planning on moving it about much, but I suppose if I need to I should be able to pick it up on the loader forks.

Roller cabinets, who has one and are they worth it?

I'm thinking about getting a roller cabinet stack to store my tools. Just got too many for my current storage boxes (plastic tubs), and it'd be nice to have all the tools in the same place. Anyway, one caught my eye at the tool shop (I'd swear they are trying to bankrupt me there). Its a fair...

Dan, yours has a flat metal cap with a rubber sort of disc inside it? If thats the case I'm going to stab a hole in it, that'll sort it.

    4WD articulated tractor works!

No Mark. Think I am going to find a good used diesel to replace it, I should have listened to you at the beginning.

    4WD articulated tractor works!

Thanks guys. I drug it out the workshop yesterday after it had been sat in the corner for a couple months. Still fun to drive :D I've got all the bits made for the 3 point linkage, maybe I'll get to welding them on some time. I dont know where the days go, too many toys, too little time! :D

This tractor is back to causing issues. Runs about 10 minutes then quits. You bleed it again and it'll go another 10 mins then die. New fuel tap, fuel pump, filters... (Yup, they were all full of junk, see attached picture of fuel pump). It does appear to be starving of fuel when it dies. I'm...

    Float on 455

I think some tractors came standard with one spool float detent and the other spring center, but some tractors had both spring center. This one has both as spring center. It has a powered broom on the front, and when you go up hills it lifts the front wheels off the ground, down hill and the...

    Float on 455

Anyone fitted the float option to the hydraulic valve on a Deere? The 'kit' is ordered, is it just a case of unbolting the existing end cap off the valve and fitting the float one if you see what I mean? Any special tools needed? 4 is the normal spring center, 7 is the float detent kit. Cheers

    Tiller question

Welcome to the site! It certainly is possible to replace broken links instead of buying a new chain, however, as you said, replacing the chain would probably be the way to go. Other links might be damaged from whatever caused the chain to break.

    Late home

A man gets home late from the pub. His wife confronts him at the door, furious that he has kept her waiting. 'Where have you been, I made dinner hours ago!' shouts the wife, 'You are home so late I fed your dinner to the dog!' 'Dont worry' says the man, ' I can buy you a new dog' :D
