TWO GUNS

Whiletrimmingaround one of thelast stands, got my nerves and heart checked out .Have a deer stand in the middle of a thicket, where one has to shoot over it into a deer plot. The thicket is sothick, full of locust thorns, saw-briars, Jesus trees& thorns, berry bushes and vines, you name it, if it sticks, it growns in there, so thick you cannot even spit. While in there, trimmingsome overgrowning limbs that is in the firing line going into the food plot. I felt something hit myleg very hard, above my ankle. Looking down, just in time to see a Cottonmouth moccasin hit me the second time. I cut my face, arms, and sides trying to tear loose out of that thorn thicket. He got a third hit before I got out of his way. I was so mad, went back in there an took him out with a axehandle.Yes, I had the .45 in my shoulder holster. But this really upset me .... Climbed into the back of the RTV and took off my pants and checked my leg. I had my LaCrosse boots rolled down, I couldn't believe, he didn't penatrate threw the boots. THANK GOD !!!

Bad week, just a few days before then, trimming around another stand, a ladder shot out from under me when I was about nine feet up, landed on my side in mud, which took much of impact, but still knocked all the breath out of me. Toook me awhile to collect myself over that ~~~~Just about had enought of all this, I'm ready to hunt some deer .....

I am glad that you are a survivor. Isn't this deer hunting fun. Me and a few buddies labored for a month a few years ago building a cabin way back in the bonnies. We even made it with a second floor so we would have a good place to watch from. This spring we put in a 7 acre feed plot. Two weeks ago we spent part of a day clear brush so we could see the plot and have good shooting lanes. I am being to think that we deer hunters are a bunch of wimps me included. But what else would we do with our spare time. LOL

no theyjust think that when theysmell old moth balls that there is a very old guy in a hunting stand somehwrere close by and his ole lady popped a few in his pocket to keep the moths away. how big is yo gutt? i found a pair of them pants with the snake proof legs on themthey are made out of what looks like canvase and the bottom part i guess from the knee on downhas about 7 layers of it . if you want them or anyother person on here wants them just cover shipping and i'll send it to ya.it even had a matching vest.i'll dig them ut and post a pic tonight for ya.

Send it on >>> need all the help I can get !!!

.......... Thanks Much Tommy !!!!

Wow Two Guns, You must be living right. Just don't push it. So that is why we've had so much rain-- to make for you a softer landing. Get on those snake boots !! God bless you and keep you safe (again).......... Bordercollie

Glad to hear your boots kept those fangs at bay!!!

Have you ever looked at a Taurus Judge? It's a revolver that shoots either 410-gauge shotshells or .45 LC's. I find it's a perfect snake charmer. Works great on other nuisance varmints as well. I keep a couple 45's in the cylinder but find myself using the shot shells the most.

Yes, I have Judge, fine little weapon.

I always carry a .45 autoeverywhere I go,my bestcaliber in handgun ! There was one in the shoulder holster at the time of the situation, but I didn't have time to grab, had to get back away from him first. He was hitting me so fast, and in the position that I was in, I couldn't hardly move, was in a tight sweeze. Having to tear my way out and away from him .And after I got away from the snake, so damn mad, for went straight for the axe handle Ikeepin the RTV, and bailed right back in there to get him, this hasdone got personal, I was pissed !!!! I was raged >>>> I got bit 28 years ago, it like to have killed me, know what it's like, don't ever want that to happen ever again, might not make it this time ~~~~

Didn't really hit me good until it was all over ~~~

It's called HIS Grace Jamie.......I really do not understand the WHYS as to some of us being so blessed and cared for by God and his Angels; but it happens over and over again. I surely don't expect these blessings to happen or count on them; but am so very thankful to HIM when I tell Him about it in my prayers......God bless.....Dennis

The "Judge" is a very popular home defense weapon.

[/quote]

I don't use it for home defense as I don't think the .410 is adequate. If loaded with the .45LC's it would be fine but I may as well just grab a 1911 that's already sitting on my desk (or the 12-gauge that's on the desk shelf).

I kept it in the truck as I think it would be good if someone tried to car-jack you but again, the range is very limited with the .410.

Most of the rounds through it have been snakes with a few chipmunks thrown it.

Jamie: you don't know how lucky you are. October 20, 2000 I took a spill off a ladder and after two months in the hospital, one month in a rehab place and six months in a turtle shell brace I was still able to walk around, but my spine is now titanium from Lumbar 2 to Lumbar 5 and from Cervical 5 to Cervical 7. The Man upstairs was watching out for you.

Andrew,

You had one rocky road coming off your ladder ~~~ But They Say, " CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN " !!!!

I can honestlysay, " he was watching over me " !!! Myself, has had two back surgerys, ( 1987 & 1988 ) and thought I'd never walk again. This also, was caused by afall ( blown off abulk tank )....But prayer does work, for there was much prayers going out in that time, and still do much praying in my life !!!!!He put me back together and gave me another chance. The other day though, Ireally thought I blew it , still little stoved up, but I am walking ~~~~

Only time when we don't have to worry about snakes, isin the cold daysof winter ......

Here come de Judge. Nice pocket companion. The 45 L.C.s (Long Colts) are fun to shoot and throws out a nice chunk of lead, but I usually keep all clyinders filled with either 410 .000 buckshot (4 pellets) or number 4 shot. That way I dont have to be quite so accurate... just quick. lol

Different parts of thecountry have different situations. For instance...never had snake problems here in deer season. Never had a need for deer plots either. However, I did put a very heavy duty push bumper/grill protector on the truck to keep rut crazy bucks and running does from landingon the hood...especially at night. Two kinds of drivers in PA. Those who have hit deer with their vehicles and those who will. Score for us so faris 3 for me and 2 for the wife.

Helpful hint for the day: old bones break so don't be taking any falls.
