Hi there
We bought a used gc2400 a few months ago worked great in mild weather but the rpm gauge would go over 3 in -14 temps bring it back in garage then ten minutes later everything worked great go back outside same issue many said replace rpm cable could have moisture in it or it’s damaged just replaced cable doing exact same thing any ideas on how to solve the issue thx

It was only -14cthe rpm’s were at 1500 the throttle was not sticking but after a few minutes outside the rpm gauge went over 3000 and started whining thx for any input

Hmmm. Need to think about this one. I too would have expected the cable. It sounds like it may be in the dash/actual RPM gauge.
The gauge went to 3000, not the engine, right?

Correct the engine speed did not change but after sitting in the garage for 15 minutes all was normal again till I took it outside agsin

OK, my best guess now is that you have condensation that is freezing inside your instrument cluster. If you can get into the back of the gauge, spray some WD-40 or something similar in there.
Not sure if this will work but it's worth a try (and assuming you have incandescent bulbs in your dash), turn on your lights before going outside. The dash lights may provide enough heat to dissipate the condensation or at least keep it from freezing.

Thx for asking I took the rest housing of the rpm gauge and found a tiny bit of moisture inside I sprayed it with wd 40 let it dry well and put a light grease in called lubriplate I put this on the worm gears as well so far so good

Glad to hear you got it resolved.
I was plowing snow with my tractor last week and did have condensation inside the cluster. I did turn on my lights which cleared it out, at least temporarily.
