Replacement Battery Size

I recall a while back there was some discussion about the difficulty encountered when attempting to replace the original battery in an RTV. Clerks wanting to know what year and model car was involved, et cetera. I recently had to do some rewiring that required me to pull my replacement battery and thought I would post the information. I put an Optima Yellow Top Deep Cycle battery in a while back. It is a Type 34/78. That battery puts out 750 CCA, fits very nicely in the original battery tray, allows the original hold down strap to be used and has the battery posts at the right end of the battery. The woven lead coil in an Optima is a whole lot less fragile than standard lead plates, a good thing for those of us who spend time bouncing around the boonies here in Texas.

Mr. Andrew,
Thanks for the heads-up on the replacement battery. I swore that the OPTIMA was going to be the one replaceing our three plus year RTV 900. Just didn't know exactly with one to get >>>>>
We are running the Red Top in our Work Trucks, personal cars, and equipment around our shack. Matter of fact, last month, a new equipment company opened up and had drawing for many items. And yes, I had the winning ticket to the new " RED TOP OPTIMA" battery. Now sitting on a shelf in our shop waiting to be put into something. Some of the " ole hunting buddies" has tried to " CON " me out of it. I just laugh !!!!!
Optima have giving us very good service in our equipment. And like you said, they will take a beating down here in the south ....

You're right Jamie, they're the best. My only problem had to do with covering up all that bright yellow with camo adhesive paper so it doesn't stand out like a spot light in the brush.

Bright yellow would be like a dot on my orange RTV! Still running the original one in mine but it is over 4 years old and my luck with batteries seems to be about 5 years for most equipment. Was just thinking how many are unlikely to make it through this winter after replacing the coach battery in our mini motorhome Saturday with a deep cycle marine one.

Current battery recommendation?

I just started having problems with the battery in my 2005 RTV900, but it was put in by the original owner and I have no idea what its service life has been. I contacted a Kubota dealer on my way home from my deer camp last week after having forgotten to check the specs on the one in it. I was told the original was a Group 21. When I look here it seems that Group 26 is the correct size? Either way I'm leaning toward an Optima, too. The yellow topped ones seem to be the way to go if you run a bunch of "stuff" and have a need for more deep-cycle capability, but I'm thinking that for my needs (primarily RELIABLE starting), that the red-top Optima is the way to go. I'd be interested in this groups' opinion/recommendation.
