I can't see very far into the woods from my polebarn but did get this view Saturday AM.

He's standing about ten feet away from a doe that could care less about his presence. Bob

OK, this is fun. Here's how to 'erect' a 3000 gallon water tank using a BX24. Pulley in the tree, rope from tractor to tank and pull. Note the cliff line in the background.

And my best friend congratulating me on not breaking anything or killing myself.

And, here's the view from on top of that cliff line in the first picture. That was the first camping trip with the Ranger.

That blue sky is where I got my screen name, NevadaBlue. The high desert is a wonderful place.

Ken,

Great pics. You know Initiative is the Mother of Invention.

My best Buddy lives at 7200ft in what I'd call high Desert in Colorado.

I'm at 1020ft.

I've got several Deer and a LOT of Turkeys that stay in and around the timbers at the Farm. They are so used to me putzing around out there they pay absolutely no attention.

Avantiguy, for that poor Buck in your picture, he is displaying the Male Gender's biggest weakness, desire for the Female Gender. :)

Richard, your pics look like 'home'. I grew up in Missouri. First 18 years just north of the river at KC (in Riverside) and then the Ozarks for the next couple of decades. I was really surprised at myself when I fell in love with the desert. We DO have trees around our house which makes for nice cool shade in summer.

I'm North of KC. North of Bethany about 15 miles. I can see the Iowa border from my North windows.

Sure a lot of difference in Northern Missouri and the Ozarks!!!

I like space. I'd get along fine in your country.

What's the tank for?? Is the land around you public lands or privately owned? Much BLM land around you?? How far from mountains are you??

Still can't comprehend that you are in Nevada..... :)

The tank is for emergency use. My wife and I are full time caregivers for out DAV son. He came home broken from Iraq in '06. At least we still have him with us. Anyway, we are on a community water system. Seems odd for this area, but that is how it was when we got here. Since the system is not guaranteed, we put the tank in just in case something catastrophic happens to the system. This gives us a buffer so we wouldn't have to bail in a dire emergency.
The land is surrounded mostly by BLM, but is private. The town was created in 1907. It has never been a ghost town, but has come close. There are only 8 of us or so full time residents now.
We are surrounded by 'mountains' on all sides. We are at 5700 feet and the ridge above us is a couple of thousand higher. The highest peak in the area is just over 10,000 and is east of us maybe 50 miles. We are very lucky to have this bit of paradise. Most of the really good land in NV is government owned. We have black, rich soil and trees and just a hundred feet or so above the bottom of our canyon the soil is typical rocky desert.

Here's some examples of weather varieties we have.

I know you aren't looking for pity or sympathy, but I very much appreciate what you are doing for your Son. I Deployed to Iraq with the first wave in 2003. Back again in 2005. Total of 42 months of Combat Pay. I'm retired now. 40 years in the Army, 22 years as a First Sergeant. My Company has over 100,000 mandays downrange in Iraq and Afghanistan. Only one injury from an IED. We are a Combat Service Support unit, Postal. Served under the umbrella of 1st Armored Division, 4th Infantry Division and 3rd Armored Division. We are all very Blessed.

If I ever get a wild hair and explore Northern Nevada I'll look you up. Sounds like a great place to live to me!!!!

Some beautiful shots there. Thank YOU for your service. Mike was on his second deployment and made it to Kuwait when he fell ill. He spent 15 months in Iraq on the first tour, mostly in eastern Baghdad at Camp War Eagle. He had an adverse reaction to the anthrax vaccine and almost died. He was paralyzed when he got to Andrews AFB and just about didn't make it. Thankfully he is able to take care of himself somewhat, but will never be able to function 'normally'. sigh...
I was drafted toward the end of the Vietnam 'conflict' and ended up in Korea in a tactical nuke outfit. more sighs...
So, let's see more homesteads!

I thought you looked to be my age. I was drafted in Feb 71. Infantry, NCO Academy, Vietnam tour.

I agree, more pics. :)

I knew this was gonna happen. I'm jealous. Awesome pics. Thanks for posting guys!!! :)

We're getting quite a spread now. How about some Northwest and/or the South??

Here's a few favorites.

Here's a couple of the campground at the Farm. Tore down an old loafing shed and used the lumber and tin to build this shelter and toilet.

Found the split rock in the creek that runs thru the farm. Had to wait for a dry Summer so I could get in the creek with my tractor and carry the rocks, one at a time, about 1/2 mile up the creek to a get out spot. :)

Y'all have way better views!!! Great pics.

Here's the first pic I found. The back yard zip line for the kids (and adults).
My woods go up the left side of the picture to the top (almost 1/4 mile).
