Kubota missed the mark with RTV

Bought a new RTV 900 Diesel last fall and haven't been happy with it at all and after trying to do some work with it today have finally decided that it is just a piece of shit. Neighbors both have Rangers and while I'm spinning and stuck they are running circle around me and laughing. Kubota really missed the mark on their RTVs. I'll tell everyone I know to never buy the Kubota RTV.

Different strokes for different folks. Depends a lot on what you are doing with it I suppose. Sorry you are not happy with the RTV.
We might be able to find a buyer for if you decide you want to sell it.
I really hate to hear that from you. Wish we could help.

I have had the RTV 1100 since 2008. For my purposes, it has been OUTSTANDING and in fact, right on target. I purchased a UTV from a company that makes tractors because that was what I was looking for. I have no need to travel @ speeds above 24 m.p.h. I have hauled firewood for the last 6 years and have hauled wood with my trailer and in the bed of the RTV to the point that I had no right think the rig would budge, but it ALWAYS has delivered. I use the RTV to haul water for my fruit trees, no problem. I use it to plow my 1/4 mile long driveway and it never fails. So, as Doc says "Different strokes for different folks" but for me, it has been absolutely flawless.

Man, Xtrooper, that green grass in that pic looks AWESOME. I can't wait to see our grass again and for it to green up like that. :thumb:

(Sorry, all those awesome pics of your RTV in action with snow and the wood and I comment on the grass ....I just could not help it. It's been a long long winter).

Yes Doc, I'm getting the heebee jeebees waiting for the grass to get green. I have a very large lawn and finally got to the point were I got the proper equipment to keep up with it (Husky Zero Turn mower). I am certainly chomping at the bit to get out there and get to spring-summer-fall projects!

P.S. Just came in plowing 4 inches of snow here in the Pocono Mountains of PA. First time I am plowing and the snow is NOT going over the banks. I anticipated this problem and tried to push those banks back quite a bit. It better green up quick or my driveway will be about one foot wide!

I am on my second RTV and have amassed over 5,700 hrs on the seats ...that's right five thousand, seven hundred hours ... The first one was sold in great shape and used no oil.. I could not make it without it on the farm... the hydraulics set it apart. A set of good gripping tires and I can go about anywhere but remind my self that this is not a toy at 2000 lbs but a working machine. I get ticked when parts are overpriced and that is it. I love the quality.. collie

RSAW,
Sorry you feel that way.... Hell, if I hated something as much as you hate that shitty RTV that you have. I would get some gas out of my neighbors Rangers, and pour on my RTV, and burn it , and be done with that. Then go buy me a Ranger.
Down here, when we hate something. We burn it. ( and we DON'T call the insurance company, we just swallow the lost ). Attaching a picture of a RTV that somebody down here thought theirs was shitty. Only to find out later, that it was NOT the fault of the Kutoba RTV, it was the operator and his decisions !!!!!!!

Until you equip a RTV with a aggressive tires. You will stay stuck. If you are trying to go off road with the OEM tires, I will even start laughing.... The ATV tires that come with the RTV's are not good for off the grass .
But, Purchase a set aggressive tires. You will run circles around the Rangers. And then you can learn to laugh.
Your dealer should have told you that much. But if you can afford a RTV. You can afford a set of tires that will do anything you want with your RTV. If you want speed. The RTV is not the machine. You deserve that Ranger !!!
Many have put the RTV's in many places that would blow your mind. But ONLY with aggressive tires. It's like having a ski boat with no engine. Yes, it will float, but will not do the sking thing.

Sorry you are not happy with your rig.

I was a little disappointed when I got mine 1 1/2 years ago, mainly with it struggling in deep sand.
But the RTV is more of a little HD truck than a UTV. Much more heavy duty and work oriented.

The Rangers seem to "float" more over sand and mud. They are considerably lighter and more nimble.
The RTV has a lot stiffer suspension with shorter travel also which both can affect traction and the ability to "float."

I have moved a bunch of rocks and plowed a bunch of snow, that I'll bet would have the belt drive rigs tongues hanging out.
In short the RTV's have some things in common with UTV's, but a lot of differences too.
I guess it all boils down to intended uses.

If there is one thing Kubota missed the mark on is not making the front differential lockable.

If I had my way I would really like to have a JD Gator along with the RTV. One for work and one for play.

I can just imagine what the Chief Financial Officer would have to say about that!

I guess it depends on one's expectations. I purchased a use 2004 last month to move snow and haul "stuff" around my acreage.

I posted on the forum about a traction problem "tire question" and received a lot of good info.

Last night we got 10" of snow and I attacked it with the 900. It seems I was not quite skilled on using the locking differential and the need for weight in the bed.

I moved the snow with minimal effort and am extremely pleased with the RTV's performance. I still will either purchase a set of chains or more aggressive tires in the future but I couldn't be happier.

Sorry it didn't work for you but the next owner will probably be overjoyed with a low hours 900. Probably a win/win for you and him.

I had the same thought Doc, this warm feeling came over me when I saw that green grass.

Ranger= Fun ~~~RTV= WORK It's as simple as that~~~~My friends have a couple of Rangers and Gators that are just not up to the job~~~~~KOBE

RSAW, sorry to hear you aren't happy with you RTV, I bought mine with the Worksite tires and they are pretty much useless getting around in muck or snow, however I put a set of chains on the rear and now I can go just about anywhere in 2 wheel drive. Like many others on this site I use mine mostly for work but also try to fit in some time for fun. There are three answers to getting the traction you require for an RTV, tires, tires and tires!

Absolutely right KOBE I did lots of research before I bought mine, I have some neighbors with a Rhino and they park it for the winter, just got tired of getting stuck, I needed a 7/24/365 vehicle and that is what i got.

Sorry your not happy with your rtv. I have both a rtv 1100 and a new ranger xp 900. The rtv gets used every day the ranger not so much. The only place the ranger is better is in deep mud where you can use the lighter weight and the rpms to really spin the tires. The rtv is so much better built there really is no comparison. I suggest you go over to the prc forum and read all the treads on the problems broken axles bad wiring bad transmission bad tpad and no warranty the worst part is Polaris four wheel drive system dosent engage above 3200 rpm and front is geared different that the back do your research before you jump ship you will be disappointed for sure. Im looking to sell my ranger soon going to take a beating they no resale value at all.

Absolutely right x2... When I got the first RTV 900 in Feb of 2005
. I was very proud... too prideful.. I had the WS tires ... We had the unfortunate luck of having a cow die in the squeeze chute while the vet was trying to save her... anyway she goes down and is gone to the cow pasture in the sky, and I say "the RTV will pull out the chute and cow" It was on concrete and the chute and cow weighed about 2500lbs.. I back up, hook up and press the pedal...no go... I was in H... that is a no go position in the early RTV when pulling a heavy load... L worked fine... I got grip tires and learned how to drive it and have never looked back.. When buying the 2011 900 , I checked with my JD dealer and he told me to stick with what I had with the type of work I did... Sure ..I get real angry when the parts are purposely engineered to be customer unfriendly ... That is the only problem I have with Kubota.. but I still love my bota.. just not the management..... collie

Ive had mine for 8 years and its done everything and then some.I wouoldnt buy anything else.Dont know what problems you are having may be you can add more info.

RSAW had power issues when he first got the RTV.
This thread: http://nettractortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15458

Dealer did do some adjustments. Then he mentioned getting stuck when trying to do some work in his post in this thread. Like two guns said, might just be a tire issue. Right tire for the terrain. One thing for sure, RSAW is not happy with his RTV. Once one has come to that point, I believe it is better to cut your losses and move on.

If what he really wants is a ranger, then sell the RTV and buy a ranger or whatever else he feels will do the work he wants. While it is hard to sell a nearly new RTV since a dealer will give a better warranty on a new one off the lot, you just have to bite the bullet a take a loss on it. The goal being to limit your loss as much as possible. And you did get use out of the RTV, even if you are not happy with it, you did use it some.

Feel free to post a classified ad here for your RTV, or use craigs list or tractor house etc etc.
I wish you luck in selling. I bought my 2006 used RTV 900 from a fellow who had sold his previous side by side four wheeler and bought the RTV. He was not happy with it as it could not keep up with his buddies machines on hunting trips, so he wanted a lighter faster side by side. He sold the RTV and bought something else. Nothing wrong with that. Like I said earlier, different strokes for different folks. If we all were the same it would be one mighty boring planet. Good luck RSAW.

I have owned THREE Polaris Ranger 6x6's - I know all there is to know about them - the first ones were good machines. The last one? Crap. I spoke to the service manager of a Polaris dealer and he told me straight up - Polaris has started outsourcing their parts - I had nothing but trouble with my last Polaris.

SOOOOOOO I bought a 2013 1100 RTV - put 137 hours on it in 4 months in tough tough conditions - dust, mud, etc. Only complaint I have is I had a boot tear and Kubota only sells the entire axle in order to replace the boot. That is not good and hopefully they will correct that. But in comparing 3 Rangers to the one Kubota there is no contest - Kubota unit is built better without a doubt
