Just got my RTV900

Just aquired my (new to me) 2004 RTV900. Its got hyd tilt box, winch, plastic cap and bed liner. It is joining my "fleet" of Kubotas which now encompasses a F3060 4x4out front with 52" blower and 60" mower, and a B1700 hydro 4x4 with loader, oem backhoe,54" blower and oem (Bearcat) wood chipper.

The RTV has 105 hrs on it and the previous owner was very gentle with it using it primarily to haul wood chips. I'm looking to put a blade on the front for light snow usage ( the other 2 units will handle the big stuff).

Any advice on blades and seeing as its older yet lightly used, any advice on gotcha's to watch out for would be appreciated.

AM enjoying the content of other forums greatly..Amazing how it can start off about an RTV and lead into such diverse topics.

Congrats and well done, Kanook! Sounds like you have a great machine. As a newbie to the RTV900 cult, I don't have much in the way of advice except to say that this forum is an incredible resource. You can find just about anything and everything you would ever want to know from the postings over the years, including a lot of material about the 2004 models.

So welcome to the forum!

Welcome to our family KK! I am sure you will enjoy your new machine. I can't give advice on snow usage .( We folks in the deep south get excited when we get flurries and about pass out when we get a couple of inches!)But we have a lot of snow knowers here that are full of advice. Now if you need any weather related advice on hot summers we can help you there. .I would start out using oem fluids and filters and when you get ready for accessories ....well we will have plenty of ideas. Welcome to the forum, eh.

Looks like your RTV will be joining a well rounded fleet. Whereabouts in Ontario are you?

Once I got my RTV, I started using it for many chores that were previously done by my tractor (which is similar to your B1700 but a little bigger and it's green). My ZTR already stole the mowing duties from the tractor. Well, at that point, my tractor only had loader duty, grading and snow removal. It would be pretty mad at me if I took away its snow removal tasks as it would then sit for those 5-6 months with nothing to do. I therefore opted not to get a blade for the RTV and to just stick with a 72" 3PH rear blade on the tractor. I'm sure the RTV can move snow faster than the tractor but I need to get the tractor out once in awhile.

Thanks all for the warm welcome..

Well ole Kanook hails from the Almonte/Carp area of eastern Ontario. We're actually within the boundaries of the city of Ottawa since they swallowed up a big portion of the surrounding rural areas under amalgamation a few years back. In returnus residents got raised taxes and fewer and poorer services....Progress eh?

The advise on fluids for myRTV is appreciated and will be acted on. My B1700 is about due for the the Hydrostatic transmission oil to be replaced and even tho the RTV only has 105 hrs onit I'll get enough UDT (probably superUDT) to replace the oil in all 3 Kubotas along with the filters. I've always been a punctual crankcase oil replacer so this is just one more to add to the exercise. I wish I had one of those used oil burning furnaces as a consumer of all thiswaste oil. Off to the recycle depot for now.

I willlikely add a plow, as indicated previously and maybe a soft cab for winter use. I'll likely build my own plow and I'm curious about the mounting method used on the commercially available units (ie Curtis). A few years back I constructed a blade out of 3/16 plate rolled to form a blade 24" tall and 54"wide and fits onto my 1700 loader in place of the bucket. It did the job well but for the type of conditions it is being used under (driveways) I foundwith the blade hanging off the front and the blower hanging out the back that manouvering got to be difficult. Thus the f3060 out front.

The plan is to adapt this blade to fit on the RTV. I know my way around a MiG and hydraulics so that won't be a problem, but I 'd like to get the mount done right. I'll be checking out the dealer stuff to get an idea on how it could be condtructed but any one else who might have advice on the mounting bracket, feel free to enlighten me.

Having retired last summer, I currently keep my self occupied in the winter at least byhiring myself out for driveway cleaning and thus the desire to hang a blade on the front of the 900. For the heavy snowfalls the F3060 with heated cab and 52" blower is ideal for driveway cleaning as its highly manuverable and the bulk of its 30 Kubota hp and torque feeds straight through to theblower making for quick snow clearing. For the lighter snow accumulations the 900 blade may be the way to go as Blowing 2-3" with the F3060 is kinda like brushing your teeth with a push broom..A little over kill.

I currently have 9 customers in my 1st year and all word of mouth..

Any way 'nuff fer now.

Gidday eh!

Kunook of the North:

Welcome to the Forum. Lots of helpful advice and pratical information from other RTV operators here. And lots of good natured teasing and political uncorrectness thrown in for good measureas well. From your introduction it sounds like you might have a thing or two to offer. Come back often and good luck with your RTV 900.
