Mt brohter in law has a 4630 and says it shift hard.
He says this is normal in this tractor. Is there an easy fix. He is retired and would like to sell it but wants this fixed first (very fussy).

Hi September!
Welcome to our tractor forum. Sorry no one has an answer for you at this point. Hopefully this bump will get the attention of someone who has experience with that model of john deere.

Which transmission does it have? Is it Powershift or Quad Range? If powershift, does the lever move hard or does the transmission shift hard?(aggressively) If the lever moves hard, then the shift cable(s) probably need replacing. If Quad Range, clutch could be dragging causing gears to grind, linkage could be worn or out of adjustment, or transmission may need overhaul. If you post back with transmission type and more specific info(does it happen in all gears or certain ones, etc..) I may be able to help further.

It is a quad
Sounds like it only happens once in a while.
talked to him today but really didn't get a straight answer.
Will wait till it warms up and then try it myself
Thank you for the information.
