Haircuts 5 cents...

I'm curious, how many members cut their own hair? I have a flat top so it’s not all that hard to manage myself. It's not just about saving money, but sometimes it just easier to do it yourself than it is to drive across town (or to town) whatever the case may be.

I started cutting my own hair about 4 years ago. In theory it seemed easy enough so my wife and I ventured out on the deck and wrapped me up in a sheet. I gave the cutters to my wife, gave her some instructions on what I wanted, and turned her loose.

Seriously wrong thing to do...

I'll spare you the details, but the image that's going through your mind right now is fairly accurate. And this was a week before Christmas so as you can imagine, I was quite the sight that year. Turns out that this story was a gift that just keeps on giving because it finds its way into the conversation each year. And every year it gets a little bit better.

Anyhow, since that time I found [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Remington-Clipper-Rechargeable-Cordless-Haircut/dp/B0015K9BXQ"]this handy tool[/ame]. I use it on the sides and back, and then use a regular electric hair razor to do the flattop. Like I said, I’ve been using it for about 3.5 years and I can give myself a killer haircut in about 15 minutes. If any of you are cutting your own hair you might want to give it a try!

I figure I've saved quite a bit of $ cutting my own hair since "97. Believe me, if I had a town job I would have to get it done - the cows don't complain though. It's not too bad since my hair is short. I cut my Dad's hair for over 30 yrs- until he passed away. Once, one of the clips popped off the trimmer and I cut a little gap on the lower side of his hair line. He said " oh don't worry- it will grow back" :) . One of those like you're referring to would have been nice. How long can you go with it? Thanks, bordercollie

I don't cut my own hair as the "eyes in the back of my head" only seem to work when watching the kids. They don't work when cutting hair so I don't know what I'm doing back there.

I do cut my wife's hair. She has an office job and there's never been a complaint so I guess I do OK.

My son changes his hair style every 3-4 months so I end up taking him to "the haircut store" (as he calls it). Once he settles on something, I'll probably take over. Last fall, it was the current kids look with bangs. Now it's closer to a high-and-tight.

My daughter is 13. Her hair has never been cut.

I'm trimming the cows' ear hair in this photo. They get horsey about touching their ears so you have to stand way back since they aren't handled much.Usually about 200 cows' ears are trimmed twice a year( They have to be trimmed so we can read the tags easily.) On my hair ,I use the electric trimmers and would be interested in upgrading to the ones squerly mentioned . bordercolllie

I haven't cut my own hair since I was a kid. I used scissors and it was a total mess.

Actually, I don't get many haircuts in a year so my hairdresser doesn't get rich off me. I tend to just let it grow and then get it cut short so it lasts 3 or 4 months at times. My wife tends to complain a little bit when it gets long, long but the clincher is usually when my hairdresser calls up and tells me it's been 4 months since my last haircut and if I don't get in there soon, she's going to charge me double. :)

The same trimmers ya use for the cows? :confused2: Now, I've never trimmed our cows ear hair. They have ear tags but I can still read them, well the ones that haven't come out yet anyway.

I'm at that stage in life where I ain't gotta cut mine, it's self cutting . . . I just pick it up out of the shower drain every night.

No . I use scissors on the cows. I use electric ones on myself but am thinking about getting squrelys recommendation for mine when they need replacement. bordercollie
