I was out plowing this morning and when I went to go fuel up I found I could not open my door. I had to climbed out the passenger door. The thumb latch on the door worked fine, but the inner latch had become unconnected. I gave up plowing to work on this and indeed found the rod the connects the inner latch handle to the actual door lock had become detached and was floating. The repair required the total removal of the outer panel with all the plastic rivets. The access was enough - but tight - to see how the assembly works and what needed to be done. Turns out a small plastic bushing had worn out. Part # K7731-29560 is supposed to keep the rod in place. The part was destroyed and I did not want to wait to order a new one ($1.71) so I managed to grind a flat spot on the rod and drilled a 1/16 hole through for a cotter pin. I made up a metal bushing make take up the slack so there is little play. Works well. I have ordered a new set of the plastic push turn rivets used to hold the outer panel in place. Installation of this panel took almost as much time as fabricating the repair.

Did you take pics of the repair?
No - If I had more time I would have tried, but I needed to get back to plowing! Taking pictures inside the door panel would have been difficult as it is really tight in there. The parts diagram for the mechanism shows the parts.
