My family has an 07 rtv 900 and sadly the serpentine belt fell off with out anyone relizing it. well we thought the battery was just goin dead and ignored problem. Well my brother was driving it for an extended period. Well the engine finally just shut down. The radiator and oil cap had both melted. my brother pulled valve cover off and oil was bearly reaching the head. I hope this hasn't happened to anyone else, but if it has, i would a appreciate any feed back, and I will keep yall posted. New engine is hopefully out the picture. I am worried with a few things though. the trans for starters, I am sure it had overheated and the radiator it self.

Thank you both for responding. Two gun, I hate asking this because we haven't done full tear down, but do you think it would be worth spending the money doing a full rebuild with that amount of heat.

NO DOUBT !!!!

DO A COMPLETE REBUILD !!!!

Thanks. I hope it goes well. We love the rvt. We got it new in 07. I was also wondering of there was any wiring I need the just replace, just to be sure.

Check out what few wires that are on or around the engine. See If the insulation looks in contact and still together.

Just have to play that one by ear >>>>

IF you did not damage any bearings the rebuild should not be too bad. Have the head checked for cracks and it will probably need milled at a minimum. Valve guides and seals should be checked as well as faces and seats. The bores should be honed if not too badly scored and rings replaced as they get brittle. A complete gasket set is mandatory as they are probably brittle.

Thank you. We are experienced in 4 stroke aluminum sport atv engine rebuilds but this is a little different. Much more heat in this. And the rvt is kind of like our baby.

Tonytn,

I have got to ask, this has been banging in my head for since this came about....

What was the temp reading ( at first ) on the guages when you thought the "battery was going dead" ?

What was the reading when it went dead ?

Don't go cheap. Cheap has no value.

IF you do overhaul the RTV engine. Do it with pride and go all the way.
Don't cut no corners. That way, You will with no doubt, have what you
started with, a KUBTOA RTV >>....

Sorry to hear of your misfortune with the rtv. Do you have a shop manual? You might look up Messicks.com., they are a Kubota dealership in eastern Pa, and great to do business with. Take photos as you tear down and rebuild... helps to remember that part 'A' goes with part 'B'. Lots of luck.

it is now running on all three but i am sure there is major damage

Surely not to swim against the current of those giving advice; but I come from the school of........ if it aint broke, dont fix it. How do you KNOW there is major damage? Is there some knocking going on? How much power does it have now? Have you checked compression? Have you done a leak down test? Is it blowing oil out the exhaust? Is there bubbling going on in the radiator when it is running? Does the engine smoke?........It's your money; but it sure is easier to replace an oil cap and other bits than a complete teardown.......God bless.....Dennis

Dennis is correct !!!

I just took it that he has done the testing.

two guns, we guess temp gauge worked up untill it was to late. The whole time battery was having problems it stayed about in the middle, with minor variations. But he said in the end it was fine till about 5 minutes till it shut down, he said it went up to bout three quarters and then to zero, full cold. two minutes later it shut down. Dennis, it is got a new knock, drove it for 3 minutes had to hold it about wild open to get it to clime little hill outside shop. But the true worrysome thing for us is when he took valve cover of the oil was bearly making it to top of head, with throttle at about half. Thanks for a responses.
