Coolant Temp

Bluff Country

New member
My worksite RTV was delivered on 6/6/07. Since then I have had a blast driving it in fields and on bluff roads. I took it up a steep ridge road with no problems. What I really appreciated was the total control coming back down without ever having to hit the brake. Temperature gauge runs from about half to three quarters regardless of air temperature. Is this the normal operating range?

Thanks!

Hi Bluff Country and welcome!!! I thought my gauge was broken because muy needle never moved. When my air cleaner/ radiator got dirty, it finally moved. I have over 1500 hrs on mine and it has never run that high. It may rise some now when I go up a long grade but never over 1/4 and then it falls right down when I level off.Check your air cleaner and radiator and make surethey aren'tblocked or clogged. Sometimes an animal can build a nest in the most unreal place, or maybe you have a hot gauge?Good Luck, Bordercollie[&][&]

Bluff Country,

Congrats on your new RTV.
As BorderCollie mentioned, assure there's no obstructions.
It's common for the gauge to go to 1/2 to 3/4 when climbing a steep hill but that seems a little warm if you're just driving around.
Watch the gauge from the time you start the RTV. How long (and under what conditions) does it take to reach 1/2? When does it reach 3/4?
My gauge doesn't normally even have a reading until/unless I put it under a load.
Now, I don't know but there's the possibility Kubota has a slightly different gauge in the '07 models.
Since the older RTV's gauges barely even had a reading, I wonder if the gauge has been changed about 10 degrees or something so it does have a reading under normal operation.

Hi bluff country, I have a 2006, and the temp gauge seems to work as intended. With an outside air temp of around 75-80 degrees it reads just below half way. If I put it under a load it will rise to 3/4 and then drop back down, I can tell when the thermostat is opening and closing. In the winter when its real cold out say 10 degrees and colder it will just move up to maybe 1/4 of the gauge under a load. I have never seen it get anywhere near the red zone. From what i've read on this forum everyones gauge seems to be a little different, depending on climate etc.. I think maybe after you have your rtv for a while you will know where your gauge shold be under different conditions, good luck with it, JDH1

My 07 runs between 1/4-1/2, about right in the middle of the two. It's an 1100, so I'm not sure if they changed the cooling system from the 900 or not. That reading is in 90+ outside temps. Hope this helps...

The unit we are running, purchased 2/07, runs 1/2 - 3/4 also . First it worried me, thinking it may be a running too warm. Called the dealer, said it was normal on these newer models. They asked if the fan was kicking in when it got about 3/4 way, my answer was yes, it does kick in and the temp falls back instantly back to about 1/2.Never into the red. The new unit we purchased the other day for my friend. Acts the same way as the other. Temps here are very HOT & humid, & not a breeze blowing in the woods. As long as you stay out of the red, and the fan is cycling, they said there is nothing to worry about ........

Bluff Country,
I just received my RTV and I also noticed that it ran in about the same temperature range as you are describing.

GET A CHANCE, COULD YOU TELL US YOUR SERIAL # ON YOUR UNIT.

We are trying to figure out the production numbers on the 900's up to this date ....

I thought the same when I got mine. Out here in the Golden State it can get pretty hot 105 to 110 where I am at. mine runs around 3/4 for a while and then the fan kicks in and cools it back down. Your going to think that it is going over heat before the fan kicks on.

Thanks for all the great replies and info! SN is 68019. I just took it for a quick 10 minute ride a couple times around a hayfield and it warmed up to the P in TEMP without the fan ever kicking in. Air temp is about 80 degrees. Will listen more carefully next ride to see when the fan does kick in.

Two Guns,
I just dropped my RTV off at the lake but I will get the serial number on the weekend and let you know.

That's exactly what happens. I watched it closer today and when the temp gauge got to around 3/4 the fan kicked in. I stopped and watched the gauge until the fan kicked out. The fan quickly dropped the temperature down to the M in TEMP so it looks like everything is working great. I was just a little nervous about seeing it get close to red but when I see how quickly the fan cools it down it's not a problem.

You are not the first one that's ever got the " eeeeggggggiiiiiiiieeeeeeesss" over looking at the temp guage. But everything is running perfect ... But it will make you pay attention !!!! That thing will cool on back down really quick .... Must be the new guages installed in the newer models ........
