BX Tire Replacement

Kubota BX2230. Need to replace the front tires first. They are factory OTR 18x8.5-8 4 ply. I contacted a couple of the local AG tire shops and told them I'd like a 6 or 8 ply tire to replace it. They all quoted BTK Skidpower HD tires. As the name implies, they are skid steer tires and there isn't much of a void between the lugs for mud to channel away. Quite a bit tighter.

Checking to see if that is the only way to go if you want a tougher tire or if anyone else has found a good solution. back tires are next but hopefully not until next year. In Ohio.

Thanks

I switched from R4's to AG's a few years ago. Cost me a good bit but so worth it. I'd think a Kubota dealer could get real AG's for ya. I got mine at Lashley in Marietta OH, saved $50 over All Power in Athens OH. Both are Kubota dealers.

I was thinking of the dealer myself. When I was in the Kubota shop area, they had racks and piles of brand new tires (and rims) sitting there. When people buy a tractor but want different tires (e.g. it came with R4 but they want R1), the dealer takes off those brand new tires and piles them up.

Who do you get along with better? Parts or Sales?
The sales guys sell them as "whole goods" and their pricing may be different (and often times much better).

I bought R3 from local dealer. Came with rims good price. I had BTK on ATV they were good. But price from dealer was better when looking to mount tires to old rims.

I would say I get along great with all of them - kind of like family. Family who takes your money. But seriously, I will try our sales guy. He seems like a straight shooter. Thanks zoom.

I talked with a guy at our local ag tire store in Mount Sterling. He said that while I was looking to just replace the two front ones due to the dry rot and remaining tread, he suggested replacing the back ones too. He quoted BTK 317 for the front and BTK 319 for the rear. Approximately $600 for all, mounted and back tires filled with beet juice or washer fluid.

Its funny, when I was a youngun, my Dad had an outfit that came to our house and dismounted the old tires, installed the new ones and all it ever seemed to cost him was a handshake and a few of those plastic milk jugs he had in the barn. They looked to be full of water...we must have had some fine water back then.

Just for the heck of it, did you check Amazon?
Here's a PAIR of 18x8-50-8 for $132. The back tires are about $300

$600 for all 4 tires, mounted and filled with beet juice does seem very reasonable.

We do have a tire outfit that does come to your house for doing tractor tires. That's what I use when I change the rears. The fronts are easy enough that my car guy does them. Never asked if they accept "water" wink-wink for payment.

When checking with your Kubota dealer, I don't know if they'll have tires only and/or tires on rims. Myself, if properly priced, I'd go with the tires on rims. If they're new take-offs, I'm guessing a fair price is somewhere around $800 for all 4. I like having spare tires on rims laying around in case you get a blow-out from a puncture or if you break the bead (front tires) from over exerting when doing loader work.

The dealer price was pretty high, $900 for tires only. About $30 ea for the rims if I wanted them through whole goods. I have to say our parts guy is just great. He doesn't set the prices however. So working plan is the R1 replacements but I heard R14s, while more expensive, help with the ride. I am getting older and the BX ride is brutal. I can feel it in my back the next day after cutting a few acres. In addition to allegedly improving the ride, they have a much tougher sidewall. So I will mention this to the tire shop next week and check the price. I would imagine they are quite a bit more. I believe R14s are radials.
