Buying TC35DA

Hey guys I am new to the forum and pretty new to tractors, so I very much appreciate all the experience on this site. I am looking at a 2004 New Holland TC35DA at a dealer. It shows 940 hours but I am not sure if that is accurate. I looked over the tractor today and found a couple things that need addressing. The tilt steering does not lock in place, but instead slides back and forth. Is there an easy fix for this? Also, it is very difficult to pull the 4wd lever backwords to 2wd. This may be a result of the plastic panel over it being partially broken, not sure. Is the lever generally diffucult to pull? I also noticed the tach is not functioning correctly. I only drops to about 2500 when the tractor is off. When you rev the engine, it goes up from there until max, which is useless. I would imagine this is a cable or pickup as other things in the cluster do work including temp. Any suggestions. I did find some oil under the tractor about halfway back. Are there common leaks to look for. Finally, the AG tires are very worn. Does it seem reasonalbe to wear out a set of tires completely in 940 hours....not sure I trust the meter....Any idea on cost of replacent tires. I apologize for the long first post. Thank you in advance for your time.

Hndacr, welcome to the forum.

With the tach doing like you stated, I would be suspicious of the accuracy of the hours.

I have a BX 2200 with 1070 hours and the turf tires are barely worn. So again, this points to the hours not being accurate.

Given that the tires are worn, I would ask if the tractor was used by a mowing company, was owned by a rental company, or in service where it was in constant use.

Bob,

I was thinking the same thing about the hours. The dealer bought it from a farm auction/sale so there is no history. It does not have turf tires, it has AG tires. I like the price 11,900, but I am unsure about some of the other things. I plan to speak with the owner of the dealer tomorrow to see what he thinks about my concerns. If I had to replace all four tires, I may as well look for a more expensive tractor with good tires as tires are expensive. The tack and visual oil make me a bit nervous.

I'm getting a feeling you best be careful with one in that condition, especially from an auction. No telling what it's been thru.
Any chance this is the one, on tractorhouse?
If so, those tires are the industrial, and look like they might have been run a bit on pavement. I have the 'bar' type --ag tires on my Kubota M7040 with almost 700 hours on the meter, the front tires show a fair about of wear, mostly on the edges of the bars, but not like on that one.

The link did not work. The unit is on tractorhouse in MI. I would like to talk to the owner of the dealer that bought it. Does this price seem cheep for an 04 TC35DA. I really like the tractor setup and feel. I sat on a JD 4210 I believe I felt like a kid, I am 6' tall and couldn't see a thing over the front of that thing. I needed a phone book to sit on.

Hello Jason, welcome to the site.
Have you checked to see what a new New Holland would cost? Sometimes it's worth a little more to not inherit someones problems.
