6110 with 620 loader

I just bought a 2002 model 6110 with a 620 loader. The float on the loader does not work. When you push the lever all the way forward it lifts the tractor and there is no detent.
Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How hard are you pushing the lever? Mine doesn't like to go into float mode using a push of the control. I have to kind of slam it to go into float mode. Might be something worth trying and it can be done with the tractor off.
Not specifically on a JD, but when I've seen this issue on other manufacturers, it's been in the cyclic control valve which is what your control lever sits on. You may be able to carefully remove it and take it apart to check (in particular) the springs and O-rings. If you find something obvious, just replace that part. Option B is to buy a rebuild kit for it for about $150. Option C gets pricey and buy a rebuilt valve but that may run $750.

It is weird, I read somewhere that you (possibly) push the handle to the side to make it float. So forward, back, and to the left all feel normal but when I push it to the right, beyond normal throw, like a float position I feel a detent in the control and hear a click in the valve behind the seat (with engine off) but it doesn’t float.

THe detent you feel to the right is for the regenerative circuit for dumping heavy loads. If you have a heavy load in the bucket, the weight tries to extend the cylinders faster than the hydraulic pump can keep up. The regenerative circuit helps alleviate that problem. For the float issue, It could be that you have a misadjusted control cable or the detent in the valve may need to be lubed or repaired. Another posssibility is the oring in control valve could be leaking oil into the cable and causing cable to hydraulically lock. If you disconnect the cable from the valve, check to see if any oil comes out. There should be no oil there. If you find oil, drain out the oil and reattach cable. If float then works, you know you need to replace oring in valve. It will eventually fill cable again.

That is good stuff thank you for giving me an direction to head in. I will add something else that I noticed. When I use the bucket curl it seems like the valve is sticking, I can hear a noise coming out of the valve stack even after I have finished moving the bucket. If I wiggle the stick it releases the noise. If that makes sense.
