12 inch vs 14 inch wheels

I was looking at Allterrainonline trying to get a price on some wheels and tires for my RTV900. I saw that they have a 14 inch wheel combo that fits the RTV. My question is will the 14 inch wheel cause any problems with the Hydrostatic Transmission. I realize that the RTV comes with 12 inch wheels, and I was considering getting 26 inch MaxxisBighorn tires to replace the worksites. Any opinions would be appreciated. Boomer.

Why would you want to go with 14"?

I'm running 25" Maxxis Bighorns and wouldn't want to go any larger.

What was the price difference between the 12 and 14"?

I'm with BCZOOM,

Why would one go with 14 inchers ?

Twelve will get you anywhere one needs to go, and get you in all the trouble a man wants to step into..... As a matter of fact, I'm running 27 inchers onthe RTV, and if had to do it again, I go with 25 or 26 inchers, forI really believe they will do everything my 27's will do..... and the lift of the" other " inch isnot enough to discuss...... Havesome folksdown here that is running smaller and they gojust as good, rides just as well, and performs just aexellent as the 27's on the" Iron Boar ">

As far as doing damage to the hydro-transmission, don't believe it would hurt it at all .... It's fully hydrastatic, not belt driven !!!!

Now this is just my opinion >>>>

after having 12"on my rhino and then putting 14"on i have found the plus side to the 14's they are alot easier to clean out the breaks with the 14's and they have alot more room to breath not to mention the mud used to cake up in my 12" rims really bad but i really don't see that happening with these 14"s. the only down side is they will ding up if you hit a bump at high speeds but hey you don't have to worry about high speeds with a rtv now do you?? i am running 17lbs of pressrue in my swamplites and they are doing fine so far.infact they seem lighter than my stock rims with 25"mudlites on them.

here's a picture of my 14" itp ss108's

tommy,

what kind of tires are they on that hippo ?Thought you were running 589's, or is that on the gator ?

i got 589's on my gator and i have a set of mudlites for my rhino plus i have this set herethese are swamplites.the guy was in a bind so i ended up getting these tires and rims for 300.00 plus i have to help the guy make some skid plates for his suzuki vinson 500 . he's gonna buy all the material all i have to do is make the stuff. not a bad deal. as you can see they are brand new and you can see how much room they have for the brake shoes to be cleaned . it's alot easier to clean than with 12"wheels thats for sure.

I am looking the same place rightnow (for the past several days) and about ready to pull the trigger. I just have a hard time spending $800 but I know I would be glad I did later on. I am looking at putting the 26" ITP 589's and either the ITP or STI type 7 wheels on my 900.

Ialso considered the ITPMud Lite XTRradials but from the feedback I received the 589'sare the way to go. The XTR's are supposed to be a newer design combining the Mud Lite and 589 designs.

i have the mudlite xl's and they have the same hard rubber as the 589's i have a set of 589's on my hpx. now this is me thinking. i have been doing alot of reading and i have been getting alot of good feed back on the maxxis zillas now they come in a 14" 26"tire so you would be able to get a whole set for your rtv of maxxis zillas and from what all the mudders say they pull like crazy. if you look at the thread pattern it's almost identical to a 589 . now for 780.00 you could get a whole set thats 4 -14"itp 108 ss rims with some 26"zillas mounted on them. thats not to bad.
