Homemade 4wd tractor from 3/4 truck

the engine is decoupled from the drivetrain. The engine will be driving a variable displacement hydraulic pump. A hydraulic motor will drive the 4spd transmission. With the pump/motor and final drive ratios, I should have top speed of 12mph. Plenty of torque.

Box truck to flatbed dump project

rdbrumfield, nice truck! are you going to have any sides or stake pockets? any tips for positioning and welding the hoist, was it tacked up while the flatbed was down? According to my drawing, I should have approx 20" of clearance at full dump. I'm kind of stalled on my project, I have to...

Homemade 4wd tractor from 3/4 truck

Will take a look at the thumbnail software. But was hoping for something automatic like photobucket, where they generated IMG codes with thumbnails, copy-n-paste into your post. test clickable thumbnail img...just had to do it by hand and convert html tags to the message board tags. BTW, this...

LOL, I'm a long ways from retiring but I've missed so many self-imposed project deadlines that I've given up. I make fewer mistakes when I don't have to get something done tomorrow.

Box truck to flatbed dump project

From what I have read, a 10 ton scissor lift is recommended for 16' beds. The lift I picked up was from a GMC Topkick truck, a heavier truck than the F550, had a similar size 14' flatbed, so I thought it was a close match but there are no markings on it anymore. I don't have access to the lift...

Homemade 4wd tractor from 3/4 truck

Thanks for the compliments. The program used, is Google Sketchup, a windows cad/modeling program there is a free and paid version, I am using the free version which is quite capable for me as long as you don't need to interchange with other cad applications. Btw. I am running it in Linux just...

Box truck to flatbed dump project

Thanks Doc, First picture is the flatbed I am going to use. It is 16.5' long. Got it off craigslist for $100, pretty good shape with metal floor. Will have to build the hinge, sides and front bulkhead though. I like the idea of drop sides, so I will try to incorporate that. Crude Sketchup...

Homemade 4wd tractor from 3/4 truck

Another project I'm working on. Started this before I bought the Case 530 tractor. But the goal was to make a small(ish) tractor with loader using truck parts. About the size of Ford 8n/9n/2n etc... It has: -Chevy 3/4 ton axles, that I have left full width. -Chevy sm465 4speed manual driven...

Box truck to flatbed dump project

Just wanted to post some pictures of a project I am working on. Picked up a 2000 F550 16' Box truck. It is rated 19000 gvw. Plan is to convert it to a flatbed dump. I have picked up a cheap flatbed and scissor hoist from a topkick for it. So far, I am into it (3.5k) for less than most...

    MBN Members Here?

Thanks for the welcome guys. As far as projects...where to begin...my short list is converting an F550 box truck to flatbed dump with sides, a homemade 4wd tractor from 3/4 ton truck with hydrostatic drive, and rehabilitating a 1964 Case 530 tractor with loader. Any interest in those? I'll...
