Basic Paint & Body Part l & ll

Thanks! And the thread is here just in case you'd like to try :). I have since completed most of the tractor and re-assembled the sheet metal, rewired and tested everything. I will include those pictures and a few shots of the rotten, now repaired, Kubota ORANGE brush hog. Mark

:yum: Sorry. I just re-read your post and..... NO - Don't use petrol. There was a time when the early synthetic enamels were thinned with mineral spirits AND old timers did use gasoline to thin that paint…but nothing I’d recommend with paints manufactured in the last two (or three) decades...

    Paint & Body Part lll

Part lll - Time To Paint! (Note, if you paint or want to, and never have another run in your work consider how useful a Test Panel really is. I use them often to avoid runs, control the flash times, check for moisture and contaminates and time this piece with everything else setup and ready to...

Nice looking Wagoneer CA! Who's the short feller standing in the doorway?

Yeah Naphtha. It's just a hotter version of mineral spirts (paint thinner). I think it contains MEK or denatured alcohol and evaporates fast in colder weather. You can (stand in a retail shop) pick up a quart of inexpensive paint, already color matched and compare it to a high end automotive...

Part Two: Paint Hardeners, Reducers & Jambing Part Two I should have included the type of primer and reducer I used on the top side of all the sheet metal. This is Matrix Systems Primer and Reducer - that uses no hardener. It is very user friendly and like most products gives the reduction...

Jim, Yes, exactly! I use .023” wire with Argon-CO2 mix. The *MIG gas and wire size keep the panel repair at a minimum of distortion and matching the metal thickness means IF I have to, I can grind and dolly the repair where it’s almost undetectable. (*Girly Welder :D) 180 grit is what I use...

Basic Paint & Body Part l & ll

Mith, Yes, I’m applying the filler with the two (tan and small green) flexable spreaders. They are inexpensive, disposable and soft enough to cut with large scissors to duplicate a negative of the compound curves and radiouses. This brand of filler (in the MATERIALS picture) isn’t cheap and I...

Part ONE Part One: Body Work & Primer I believe the best place to start when getting ready to paint anything…is doing the basic body work. After all, the best painting professional in the world will have poor to mediocre results if the surface he’s painting isn’t straight. *1- The first (2)...

Basic Paint & Body Part l & ll

It has been suggested by some here that we have a place where any NTT member can conveniently locate for help with spray painting and basic body work. I would like to offer my contributions by using a Kubota L2201 as the test subject. It was brought to my shop with a few minor mechanical issues...

    new guy needs help

Tommie, Nothing stupid about it. Countless threads have been about Ford Tractors, new owners, and the frustrations of redoing the electrical. I'm thinking that with a one wire alternator, someone has already done (or attempted) the 12V conversion. The sparks (obviously) indicate either bad or...

    new guy needs help

Yes Tommie, I got your email…and I’m useless untill my third cup of coffee! I should warn you up front that although I’m a lover of all models, probably my least experience* lies with Ford gas tractors. I only stumbled upon the diagram a while back and remembered where it was for ya’...

    240 D steering problem

DJM, There should be a set screw with a locking nut on the outside of the steering box. This is a lash adjustment. With no load (front end on jack stands) on the front axle you can loosen the lock nut and adjust the set screw 1/2 to 3/4 turn and that should help but there isn't alot of...

    Considering alternate GT power source

Thanks lowland! A chap about an hour north of me has offered up the Skeletal remains of a SS16/6 garden tractor. A frame, wheels/tires, perfect (tight) steering and an excellent transmission all for the taking. This is too good to pass up and could very well be the foundation for the diesel...

    Considering alternate GT power source

Dumb luck as I happend upon it, always wanted a small one to build something around. Here are some details from their website: Hatz 2G40 Air cooled 2-cylinder four stroke Diesel engine. • Vertical cylinder producing 22.8 FHP @ 3600RPM • Crankcase made of alloy, pressure die casting, parted...

    Considering alternate GT power source

Geeze guys, Talk about poor response time :yum: (I mean mine, not just your's). Back in June I had thought this thread has got to be one of the most uninteresting in the history of NTT. There are only a few updates since my last post. The Honda engine runs well but looked terrible appearance...

    Hard Starting Diesel

A good Cetane booster like Lucas or PowerService works wonders on a diesel fuel system. An excellent aid for hard starting in winter weather... Funny how you don't actually notice how well it works until you stop using it :D
